  1. Mancini learned to play outfield in the majors after being a 1B in the minors and college. I hardly think it would take Norby a full season to "decent".
  2. I didn't say release him, I said trade him. If you don't think he's good enough to help the ML club trade him for assets that are, or might be in the future.
  3. You think he's going to help the farm ranking after spinning his wheels in AAA for another season?
  4. Then trade him to someone who will give him a shot.
  5. He's more of a barely adequate 3B/1B/DH.
  6. Folks claimed the O's cuts when they were losing 100 games. Teams churn the waiver wire. It isn't something that only happens to top teams.
  7. Are you just saying that because you think Oakland is bad or do you think they have an actual need for a backup outfielder with issues with staying focused?
  8. Had a roommate in Germany that had a satellite dish installed outside the window. He'd pay to get the "hot box" to get all the channels. Sometimes It'd last six months, sometimes six days. You never knew.
  9. Our goal as fans is to win the World Series. That might not be the primary goal of the organization.
  10. Did anyone post the comments Wong made on the subject? I find it pretty impressive considering he's looking for a ML job.
  11. To me it's saying "Winning will always take a back seat to money."
  12. Having Holliday start the season on the team isn't going all in. Going all in looks like trading for Burnes and Soto then signing Hader.
  13. Mostly that isn't a repeatable skill. All of this stuff is looking at the long term grand scheme of things trends. Yes you can win five games in a row by one run and then lose a game 12-0 and at the end of the week you are 5-1 with a negative run differential, but over the course of history teams that score more runs than they allow tend to win more games. Yes you can have a Mike Trout and a Shohei Ohtani on the same team and miss the playoffs. Doesn't mean they aren't guys you'd want on your team.
  14. Good thing I didn't say that. But they aren't going to eliminate the need for an adjustment period. You can only improve so much facing inferior competition.
  15. What do you find confusing about it? A "replacement-level player" is a construct they made that is their approximation of what waiver claim or non-prospect from the minors being called up would accomplish. So basically a player you could add to the roster for close to 0 cost. Someone like Aaron Hicks last year. (yes Hicks provided more value than the fiction creation is designed to). The O's needed a guy that could play CF, Hicks was sitting there not doing anything and they added him.
  16. https://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/Wins_Above_Replacement It's been around for around 30 years.
  17. I get what you are saying but so what if he does? A couple internet articles get written?
  18. I don't either, he's just a favorite character of mine.
  19. I agree that it is rare but I would expect the rate to increase as voters are more analytic driven over story driven.
  20. The thing is, with the current arbitration system, there is nothing that Holliday can do to "force Elias' hand". Can you think of a single example of it happening? They can do whatever they want and at the end of the day the Arbitrator will side with the team.
  21. Probably because it hasn't happened since 2022.
  22. No he can't. He can't adjust to left handed ML pitching in the minors.
