I don't think he had the interpersonal skills to hack it. As for being analytical? Maybe, but La Russa was known for being ahead of the curve as a young manager and he sure couldn't adjust to the modern game.

I don't think it is fair to describe the Gausman deal as a dud. His goal was to dump both the Gausman and O'Day contacts and he succeeded. I also don't think a better deal for Machado was out there. They had a market of one. They waited too long to trade him.

Nike paid a billion to MLB(~3M a season per team) in the most recent apparel deal. The City Connect jerseys aren't going anywhere.

He's not as fast and provides no where near the defensive value. If he manages to become a star it won't be in a similar vein as Henderson. He's going to have to hit a ton.

Folks here love to tout the O's prospects. Have you look at that highly regarded top 10 prospect list? Tony's top 10 has one pitcher on it, at 10, and he's got some red flags. Elias had the ability to add some quality pitching before this season, heck he could have done it before last season. Being able to identify a problem does not, in and of itself, solve that problem.

I doubt the team has that power.
