  1. They'd do both. You won't see anyone going, well this 3.15 ERA is good enough, I won't try and throw harder and get it lower. Not how elite athletes are wired.
  2. Roy LOVES sac flies in the game thread.
  3. I don't get it, he doesn't even have one sac fly....
  4. If he had vertigo I don't think they would have let him pinch hit. Seems needlessly dangerous.
  5. I spent the whole day at the VA hospital, I was wiped.
  6. We are talking selections teams make. Harper and Machado were both top 5 picks, no team could have picked both of them. If the Phillies had picked Realmuto you might be on to something but that was the Marlins.
  7. The best draft of the last 20 years was full of position players so that's the best way to draft! My move is going to bed.
  8. Can you find me another draft class in the last 20 years with position players that match those four? Or a mixture of position players and pitchers? I'm guessing you can't.
  9. He does seem to be a real person. I thought it might have been AI generated with a fake byline.
  10. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/07/mlbpa-hires-andrew-miller-in-special-assistant-role.html Not surprising:
  11. Right, because that "I would not have allowed" is a load of crap.
  12. I have limited issues with Boras. I do think he took advantage of someone in decline with the Davis deal. I also don't like how he'll let's say experiment with someone like Carter Stewart. He also seems to let his less coveted clients hang in the breeze some years. I think he's a great agent if you are one of the top players in a given FA class.
  13. I love the Hubris. I WOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED. Dude, he would have fired you. Ohtani knew exactly what he was doing. He knew he could have got more up front money, he didn't want up front money. I do agree that it was a great deal for the Dodgers and said it at the time. And Scott....just an FYI, Ohtani's contract isn't worth 700M, it's closer to half that.
  14. Heh, that's some fair criteria you set. I don't see anyone doing it better (over an 18 month window, with lower payroll and only using the last five years)! You should be posting about historic stats on Twitter. There are a thousand ways to skin a cat. Elias has done a great job, that doesn't diminish what some other people in the industry have accomplished. I think Elias gets tons of flowers on this site, a huge amount. I think we hear daily about it. I think the National media has given him his flowers. I think it's nonsense to think he is somehow being overlooked by anyone. How much more look at me do you want?
  15. We can keep going back to 2019 if you want? The O's aren't the only ones doing more with less, they aren't the only ones that are competent.
  16. So Cleveland? The team that has a better winning percentage and lower payroll?
  17. Right, because folks aren't trying to add more offense to the game. Because no one can develop pitchers. I guess no one can develop hitters either.
  18. Well the first step is to trade Mayo for whatever we can get.
  19. Other teams seem to be able to grow the arms.
  20. Other teams would not be obligated to follow that plan.
