  1. I wasn't trying to suggest that he wasn't highly regarded.
  2. Would you be mad as a Padres fan that they didn't hold Tatis back and game his clock?
  3. Right, but the question is "should". That, to me, opens up the moral argument.
  4. We know nothing about him. The Orioles should have a pretty solid collection of data.
  5. First off age is age, regardless of wear. Secondly I don't agree with teams potentially costing players huge sums of money by holding them in the minors when it isn't beneficial to their development. AR hitting free agency at 29 probably gets a much different contract than AR hitting free agency at 31.
  6. I'm not worried about wear and tear. I'm worried that he's 23 and that it looks like the O's might delay his future earnings by another year so they can gain an advantage.
  7. The question, to me, isn't if they would have fared better initially. It's if more time in the minors would have been beneficial overall? Was being in the majors in 2012 an advantage or disadvantage for Machado's overall career? I'd say it was an advantage.
  8. From what I recall folks in the industry and outside both saw him being sent to AAA more a matter of gaming his service time over him needing more development. He got promoted shortly after the projected sup 2 cutoff.
  9. I think some folks would be in favor of it, at least until they got the seventh season...well might as well wait for super 2... He has to prove himself!
  10. So it's about the service clock after all? Why didn't you just admit that in the first place?
  11. Poor naive soul counts as character assassination now? Sorry I had no idea.
  12. Do you honestly think that? You poor naive soul.
  13. Yep and I think all three are outside of the time period mentioned. Kinda hard to come up with names that did well when you don't have any names to pick from. Drungo has touched upon this. The system is set up to favor a slow promotion schedule.
  14. You are right. Failure is a possibility regardless. You have no evidence that additional development time added Mountcastle. For instance we didn't see his walk rate increase until he got to the majors. Also Mountcastle was a HS draftee that was never regarded nearly as highly as AR.
  15. You are still avoiding the question. BTW Manny was 19 and was not regarded as the second best prospect in baseball at the time.
  16. Schoop put up an OPS of 65 his rookie year. Did he get sent to the minors? Did it hurt his career? Does anyone even remember that?
  17. HOW IS THAT USEFUL IN THE MAJORS????? Jeez man I specified useful in the majors because I figured you would mention something useless like that. He isn't going to be facing AA pitching in the majors. If it does take a specific skill to hit AA pitching he won't suffer from the lack of it.
  18. Why do folks think that this off the charts intangibles kid, raised in a baseball coaching family won't be able to make adjustments at the ML level? Folks are acting like he was some toolsy raw two sport athlete. The fact that he was highly polished was part of the package. Was Manny's bat ready for ML pitching when he was promoted? Was Schoop's?
  19. The last thing Elias wants is to have to pay him a second before it's absolutely necessary. Now, I'm going to ask again. What can he learn at AA that he can't learn in the majors (That will actually be useful in the majors)?
  20. Can you not read? The reason he doesn't need to waste half a season in AA is that there is nothing he can learn in AA that he can't learn in the majors.
  21. Can I have a list of highly touted college bats that never played above low A and played in the majors? For context.
  22. It is if the three years in a major college program means nothing to them.
