  1. You realize that the vast majority of people are unable to react in time to a 90mph baseball coming at them when they know it's going to be coming at them let alone not expecting it? In fact a ball released from a pitcher's hand at 95mph reaches the plate in .395 seconds. The average person takes .4 seconds to blink.
  2. That would cost players a ton of money. There's no reason to let the owners make even more.
  3. Although it's not a hard cap, there is essentially a hard cap that no team is going to cross. I believe it's $248M where you incur the max penalty.
  4. Because showing a battered 4 year old or frantic parent sprinting up the stairs with their child in their arms wouldn't exactly be a classy move. Most places did well not to show it.
  5. Not sure I understand why Abrams is ok, but not Vaughn. Yeah, Abrams has crazy speed and very good defense but the bat is a big question mark. Vaughn is a much safer pick with elite offensive potential. Yeah he doesn't play a premium position but it doesn't matter how good your defense is if you can't hit.
  6. I really don't think Vaughn at #1 is that bad if it let's you grab a talent like Leiter with the 2nd pick.
  7. I keep thinking back to what may have been if Kris Bryant doesn't retweak his shoulder and have to go to the DL for an extended time. Davide Bote was being dangled to a numbers of teams, but when Bryant went down the Cubs had to keep him to fill in. Not sure what it would have looked like, but I don't think it's unrealistic that Bote would have been an Oriole as the Cubs were interested in Gausman.
  8. Umpires zones need to go and you can't even even let them have a token job like announcing balls and strikes with a mic in their ear be cause they will mess it up and they'll do it on purpose to make the new system look bad. There have already been umps who have said as much off the record.
  9. I very much doubt you're getting 3 years of a guys who has been a 3.5win player the last two years for schoop who has fewer years of control and isn't really any better. That's asking the Brewers to throw away value for nothing.
  10. This is what I'm praying for as a Cub fan. Worst defensive infield in the history of the game.
  11. a lot of shine off that arm in the last few months, not sure I'd go that direction if I'm Baltimore.
  12. He doesn't have to, if he does what he's doing this year going forward he's going to make 100M in FA.
  13. What are you talking about? I was talking about this year, he's nearly on pace for 5. He only has 3 seasons under his belt before this one. His rookie year(2015) he put up 2.6 in 142 games, in 2016 he put up 3.3 in 151 games. Last year in a year he dealt with injuries and personal problem he regressed and only put up a 1.4 in 110 games. So far in 2018 he's put up 1.9 in 62 games. He's more than a solid defender, he led the NL in DRS last year and he's doing so again this year. 15HRs is his upside? He already had a season where he hit 21. He has a ton of upside, that's why he was a top 5 prospect in the game.
  14. 24 year olds shortstops who are on pace to put up nearly a 5 war season just grow on trees these day eh?
  15. You really need to give Montgomery more credit. 3.31ERA and sub 4.00 FIP, if that's your #5 starter you've got one hell of a rotation. His numbers since having to fill in for Darvish: 4GS 23.2IP 13H 1.41ERA 3.51FIP
  16. Don't be surprised if they announce a trade some time today. Last night #11 overall prospect, according to BA, Kyle Tucker was pulled for non health related reasons after only 2 ABs and Yordan Alvarez was a healthy scratch. It would have to be a big name to land both of them.
  17. yeah I mean Conlon doesn't even have to accept it even if he does 164K to keep a 4th round pick is cheap.
  18. I can't imagine MLB would be very happy with that, I think you'd get a nice big investigation.
  19. Unless Conlon has severe arm issues or has a Heimlich like incident in the past, I can't believe the Orioles would just forfeit a pick like this. It just doesn't make any sense.
  20. So did the Oriole's really not even given Conlon the 40% offer to ensure they get a comp pick next year? That's the only way Conlon could possibly become a FA.
  21. Drew Smyly, like Pineda, has always been an enigma. They both post these amazing peripherals, super high K/9 low BB/9 good FIPs/xFIPs and yet they always manage to underperform those peripherals because their pitch sequencing is just awful. If the right organization got hold of either of those two, they could turn them into front end monsters.
  22. As far as I know Pineda tore his Labrum.A very major surgery for sure, but not quite the same. Supposedly Urias' labrum and rotator cuff are fine, he's having surgery to repair his left anterior capsule.
  23. I don't think most people realize how serious this surgery is. This is the same one that pretty much put an end to Mark Prior, Johan Santana, Chein-Ming Want, Danny Hultzen, etc. This is not TJS where odds are stacked in his favor. I can't think of any major league pitcher who had this surgery and came back to even sniff their previous success.
  24. Yeah I"m sure the Orioles know what his number is. They can't afford to not sign him and throw away their 1st round pool. That just destroys your draft.
