I mean, the fact that we will turn Hector Velazquez, a 31-year old waiver claim, into ANY other player, is pretty great. Even if that new player is bad, which he probably will be.

Another Velazquez perhaps.  That said, no qualms from me even if we just got a bag of peanuts.

America is wonderful where everyone can have an opinion.  I was fortunate enough to read one that basically said, “Why does Acuna get chance after chance swinging at everything, but they get rid of Folty?”

Fineeeeeeeeeee, we'll take Acuna off their hands.

Or maybe if word on the streets is that he's really unhealthy it'd be a good move to stay away.

Right for sure.  I trust Elias to do his due diligence and make sure something more serious than "he/s lost a little velo" is going on.

I'd want to see them, too, but Folty wouldn't mean you wouldn't be able to see them.

Guys like Wojo, Eshelman and Hess aren't ML guys.

Agreed.  At worst, Folty is another Wojo.  Would be worthwhile to at least figure out what went wrong with a formerly solid starting pitcher.

I think they could get a company in there to do a CDC-approved deep clean and sanitization prior to the team populating the clubhouse for the game.

    Agreed.

Best case scenario for us as fans is, if the Orioles are already down in Miami, to do a double header there tomorrow.  Or a double header in Baltimore for Wednesday or Thursday's game.  It's doable, if they handle the COVID part of this correctly.

I hope I am wrong.  I have been in a good mood since Saturday almost entirely because of the fun series win in Boston.  It's just, if the Marlins had it, and were in the Phillies visiting clubhouse, the Phillies are not all at risk too, and it's a domino effect.  You would think they have to cancel the Yankees Phillies game tonight too.

the Phillies are all at risk too. **

Didn't the league structure rosters in a way just for this reason? All of you rushing to be first to call the season over - much like game threads around here - are amusing. Let's see what happens, but there's no prize for being the first to "call it."

Honestly, I think you are reading too much into what baseball is doing.  I have a Black Lives Matter related sign on my lawn.    It’s got nothing to do with hating the police, or wanting the country to turn socialist or anything of that nature.     It’s just a statement of belief that people of color should be treated equally.     I think that’s the simple proposition that baseball is supporting, not some dramatic political agenda.

    This.  Very much this. :gallden:

When Rudy Gobert tested positive, he had played a full game against the Toronto Raptors. None of the opposing players (including the ones guarding him the whole game) contracted the virus, and they were playing indoors, in much closer quarters than baseball players get to each other. Anything is possible, but baseball being played outdoors should greatly prevent transmission to opposing players in general.

Soto's Nationals teammates obviously may be at risk, but the O's players should be fine. Guess we'll find out.

    Fair point.  Hope you're right.

    1) Hays - CF
    2) Ruiz - 3B
    3) Santander - RF
    4) Nunez -DH
    5) Davis - 1B
    6) Severino - C
    7) Stewart - LF
    ? Iglesius - SS
    9) Alberto - 2B

I think this is probably it, especially after last night's lineup had Ruiz second.

Speaking of Ruiz, he hit the ball well in ST, and in yesterdays tiny sample size, seemed like he hit some line drives.  Maybe he'll surprise with an .800 OPS during the short season?

Why Ruiz before Alberto? Alberto hits better, doesn’t he?

I don’t have any argument about the list. Eovaldi is a righty, so maybe someone else instead of Alberto at second?  But I don’t know who that would be.

Alternating right lefty, and Alberto is much worse against righties (Eovaldi).  If the Orioles were facing a lefty, such as EROD who was supposed to pitch, I'd hit Alberto leadoff.

Also just a fun exercise, didn't put too much thought into it.

  12. Wow, we are literally ONE WEEK from actual baseball (fingers crossed).  I thought it would be fun to put some guesses together for the Orioles opening night lineup against, I'm assuming, right hander Nathan Eovaldi.  Since we have not had any ST games, I feel like a lot of our guesses will be shots in the dark.

    CF Hays

    LF Stewart

    RF Santander

    DH  Nunez

    1B Davis

    C   Severino

    3B Ruiz

    2B Alberto

    SS Iglesias

    SP Means

    Whad'ya say?
