  1. Every hitter in their lineup swings in an arc to produce flyballs.. it is amazing they ever hit a groundball lol
  2. Watching the Orioles play the Yankees is just like watching a cat toying with a mouse .. we will be fortunate to win even one more game against this team
  3. “Maybe he is not willing?” Who is his agent again? Oh yes, that Boras guy. Pretty unlikely to be a negotiated extension trade.
  4. What was great also about 1966 was not only winning but the Yankees finishing 10th… before divisions started in 1969 lol
  5. My Dad took me in 1965.. I was first aware of the Orioles when they actually were one of the truly great dynasties … i have been to 1 game in every World Series they have played .. that 83 Series was me and my now ex brother-in-law law i have raised two adult children since 1983 telling them both growing up that we are at the next World Series .. now I tell my 8 year old granddaughter that too lol
  6. Very true .. and if we can do that great, but he really did not pick the Cody Sedlocks etc, the “soon to be ready” college arms ..Houston traded for pitching up until this year. Maybe Elias would have selected Grayson, maybe not.
  7. You are right .. I think the Appel and Brady Aikens first round disasters were also in his formative mix .. similarly we have had the worst luck with first round pitcher picks … the parade of Jay Powell, Alvie Shepherd, Mike Paradis, Richard Stahl, Josh Cenate, Beau Hale Tripper Johnson, Chris Smith, Adam Lowen, Matt Hobgood, etc I still cringe when the Os make a high round pitching pick .: give me the bats .
  8. That is easier to do with a Verlander, Greinke, McCullers , Odorizzi also in rotation last year or this year . I think it is a replacement plan but the Astros won their championships almost exclusively with non organization pitchers
  9. Or maybe Elias just got burnt and it made him leery of high round pitching Elias and others picked George Springer in first round and the next year was Carlo Correa .. then they picked Mark Appel the following year and Brady Aikens the following years thus going back to first round position player choice the following year with Alex Bregman
  10. If you look at Houston from just before Elias got there in 2012 until he left .. it may make more sense On all their winning teams the only guys who were homegrown right out of the draft were Dallas Keuchel who was a 7th round pick and Lance McCullers who was a first rounder. They traded and bought every other starting pitcher they used from two years before they started really winning through the first World Series years … guys like Mike Fiers, Scott Feldman, Charlie Morton, Brad Peacock, verlander, Greinke, Wade Miley, Collin McHugh, Scott Kazmir, etc etc Elias does not have a record of drafting pitchers in upper rounds very often
  11. Yes there is data lol WAR can be used to describe the average team playing in the World Series, with the average winner having a team total WAR value of 47.0, or 13.7 above the 2017 MLB team average. Through historical analysis, WAR as a statistic and its values appear to be validated when comparing team total WAR values with actual winning percentage and general opinion. WAR values also don’t vary much between decades, with the 1950s being the exception. Although the WAR value analysis for each World Series shows that teams with a higher WAR value win about 57.3 percent of the time, there is no correlation between the WAR difference between teams and winning percentage, leaving postseason outcomes subject to intangible factors. https://sabr.org/journal/article/war-and-the-world-series-is-war-an-indicator-of-october-success/
  12. I am sure there is data about this but I wonder what the average WAR for World Series winners looks like and are there patterns that are predictive. Meaning do you have to have a certain WARs from certain positions.. TOR or Position stars to get a championship. As opposed to a collection of similar WAR players.
  13. We shall see … he was not my choice. I preferred Jones. But hopefully Holliday will become an All Star and a generational player.
  14. And not really sure what “Fear of God Baseball” is … lol.
  15. I am not happy with the pick. I think Jones will be a star and Holliday will not . But we shall see
  16. We still have a ways to go to be winning in this division.. MFYs coming in after the break.
  17. This guy has thrown 9 pitches … only one of them was above 90 and it was the complete waste pitch to Trey.
  18. Digging a 6 spot hole may be one rung too many climbing back
  19. 1. Baltimore Orioles: OF Druw Jones, Wesleyan High School (Ga.) We're not going to overthink this, but there's no guarantee the Orioles will do the same. Jones is the consensus top player in this class and has the potential to develop into a five-tool center fielder. He also has an extremely high floor thanks to his contact skills, speed and elite outfield defense. The Orioles' recent history of cutting below-slot deals in the first round has led to speculation they could turn elsewhere, but this is an opportunity to land a cornerstone player. Plus, they went chalk when they took Adley Rutschman No. 1 overall in 2019. https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/10042041-brs-final-2022-mlb-mock-draft-40-for-every-1st-round-pick.amp.html
  20. Perhaps .. but half a billion is a pretty big risk ..
