  1. Watkins is now a real outlier.. he has no business being in an ML rotation
  2. Yes let’s get back in the division a bit and see
  3. Very good effort. Reminded me a bit of Moose in terms of command and poise
  4. Bradish was very good .. reminded me a bit at times of a Mike Mussina like poise .
  5. Particularly with Buck’s penchant for veterans, he must really really be done
  6. I would be heading back to the house … two doses in one day of this is way too much
  7. So where are these “worst in ML bullpen arms” that the announcers kept harping on?
  8. Sort of like a two for one deal on fried liver gizzards…. “Oh here is your second heap.. free!”
  9. That same stupid strategy of trying to bring your “closer” (and I use this term loosely) in the eighth and ninth to get outs. I have always, always, always hated that move.
  10. The Orioles play closer games but are still a team that will lose 100 games+.. they just do nothing in clutch situations and most good teams just turn it up a bit and exert their dominance pretty easily.
  11. Hyde should take the team and go to LAX … right now.
  12. Get Chris Davis warm .. i mean we are paying him to do nothing .. we need some innings on short notice
  13. If you are rebuilding, risks must be taken because players get hurt no matter what. It would have been a risk trading him last year or the year before, but that may have turned out well. It would be a risk to sign him to a long term deal now but this is when you get a bargain that he is right now. If not, then you see where he fits in to the squad after rehab .. maybe Grayrod and D Hall and others have stepped up and he can add to a rotation to win or be dealt for other needs.
  14. The rule According to rule 5.09(b)(4) in the MLB rule book, a runner can be tagged out when: “He is tagged, when the ball is alive, while off his base. EXCEPTION: A batter-runner cannot be tagged out after overrunning or oversliding first base if he returns immediately to the base.” What’s more, according to Rule 5.09(b)(11), a runner can be called out if “he fails to return at once to first base after overrunning or oversliding that base. If he attempts to run to second he is out when tagged. If, after overrunning or oversliding first base he starts toward the dugout, or toward his position, and fails to return to first base at once, he is out, on appeal, when he or the base is tagged.” “If he attempts to run to second…” Show me where Trey attempted to run to second .. this type of nonsense should be challengeable and if overturned, the umpire should then have mandatory remedial training about the rule lol
  15. Love this one too from David Vincent at Retrosheet that has vignettes about ejections and rhubarbs “07/19/1946 – White Sox at Red Sox White Sox hurler Joe Haynes threw a pitch at Ted Williams' head in the third inning and was warned by HP umpire Red Jones. The White Sox bench rode Jones, accusing him of playing to the Ladies' Day crowd. Ralph Hodgin was ejected from the bench by Jones, followed shortly by Dario Lodigiani, Eddie Smith and Coach Bing Miller. Then Leo Wells was ejected by Jones. When the White Sox continued to yell, Jones went to the bench and sent Mike Tresh, Johnny Rigney, Hal Trosky, Guy Curtright, Eddie Lopat, Whitey Platt, Frank Whitman, Wally Moses and batting practice pitcher Glen Liebhardt off the bench with recall privileges. However, White Sox manager Ted Lyons told that group to change clothes and go to the train station to await early departure for New York. Only Lyons and coach Mule Haas were left on the bench but there were six players in the bullpen. This is the most players ejected in one game for a team.” https://www.retrosheet.org/Research/VincentD/EjectionsHistory.pdf
  16. A great article about ejection history from Retrosheet https://retrosheet.org/Research/SmithD/EjectionsThroughTheYears.pdf Earl was 4th alltime in ejections with Bobby Cox being first Stan Musial had the most games played without ejection, Brooks was 4th (neither ever ejected) “Derek Jeter finishes his MLB career having played the sixth-most games without ever having experienced an ejection as a player. Jeter's 2,745 regular season games played without ejection trails Hall of Famers Stan Musial (3,026), Willie Mays (2,992), Brooks Robinson (2,896), Robin Yount (2,856) and Tony Perez (2,777).” https://www.closecallsports.com/2014/09/umpires-on-never-ejected-derek-jeter.html?m=1
  17. But, of course, speeding up the game means we will never see this again … lol
  18. The “reason” lol .. our former manager, the Human Rain Delay Chuck with the great and bitingly dry sarcasm.. lol
  19. I appreciate it too. Trey would have likely stopped saying bad words once the first batter stepped in. No one was in any danger it seems to me except in their own egos. But yes, he followed the code, argued, lost his cool and received the “deserved” ejection. All true and all true for any player. Well maybe except Derek Jeter who got away with murder lol
  20. I respect yours too.. thanks! The ritual of rhubarb and ejection however actually perpetuates the ranting and raving, not reduce or eliminate it. Players follow their code, umpires follow their code etc. There is no preventative effect on players by being tossed. In fact, sometimes players feel enhanced by it .. being fiery, passionate etc is part of their persona to the public. The process of ejection and players and managers behaviors are all guided by the ritual. If MLB really wanted to eliminate it “for the kids” example, then .. they could say starting tomorrow that any player or manager who argues overtly on the field or disrespects the umpire from the dugout is suspended for 25 games. They don’t stop it, because like hockey ,it is part of the ritual and performance. There were many traditionalists who were and are against replay and DHs and night games lol Change can be a good thing too.
