  1. When the season began I had hoped that there would be some fun reinforcements towards the end of the season. I thought Kremer would be putting it together and Bauman or another young SP would come up and excite. I was hoping for an infield prospect to impress and be called up and keep it going (Bannon, Jones, Vavra…).

None of those guys are really knocking down the door and I’m not sure ME would call them up anyway. 10 wins for the rest of the year. Hopefully one of those guys proves me wrong.

Certainly, the O’s have made worse picks using their #1 pick than they did with their 3rd for Watson but I think our bar needs to be higher if we are to be a successful organization.  If Trimble and Rhodes aren’t a lot better than Watson, we are in big trouble.

We’re in big trouble if the success of a 3rd and 4th round pick in a single draft dictate if we’re in big trouble.

To my knowledge everything is open now but the lines are horrendous because they aren’t staffing a lot of folks.

Last time I was there, which was a weekday, a lot of the carts were closed, at least in the upper deck.

The food has gone way down hill. Hoping they get it right again for next year.

The Yankees just played the Marlins where Mattingly tested positive. The Orioles have recently played the Marlins and now are at the Yankees, so chances are an Oriole might be testing positive soon and have to go on the covid list.

I don’t think there’s any evidence that Cole caught it from the Marlins, that’s speculation. Covid is everywhere.

I don't think many Oriole fans realize how GREAT he was for so long.  He should have won two more Cy Youngs than he did.

I think everyone realizes how great he was, it’s what makes the comeback so interesting.

But it wasn’t long, 2.5 seasons of Ace type pitching and then a pretty steep decline.

  6. Just heard Inside Access on 105.7 mention that Matt Blood said something yesterday they interpreted as DL wouldn’t pitch again this year.

LaCanfora and especially Weinman are blowhards, but they do get good guests on their show.

The Orioles are definitely taking the long road here. That 2012 team was built on a few prospects who developed but mostly trades, free agents and a couple of shrewd pick-ups here and there. What the club is doing now is trying to develop a talent pipeline through the farm system. That takes much longer but it will make them a perennial or nearly-perennial contender if they can pull it off (see Tampa, Oakland). The 2012 method was good for five years but look where it left us.

The “2012 method” is very similar to what is being used now, good drafting and rebuilding type trades. It was just abandoned once success was tasted and the wrong guys were let go/retained.

This is why major league baseball needs to contract.  Fewer teams will mean stronger teams and more parity.  It will also make games much more interesting.  It may not help viewership in cities that lose teams, but the league itself - at least the quality of play - will be much improved and interesting for the lay fan.  It is a travesty that teams like Baltimore has been putting out on the field for the last several years should be in the same league with teams full of legitimate big league players.  The talent gap between the haves and have nots in the league is way too big to make the league interesting.

The same can be said about every sport. Have you watched basketball? At least in baseball an argument could be made that teams are staying bad artificially, with the Orioles keeping 2 of their top 5 talents (I’d argue) in the minors.

The last thing baseball needs, an already localized sport, is to consolidate their area.

Fair points.  I'm still struggling to see a 90 win team in 2-3 years from now, let along a 95+ win team that can take it all.

The key to me is that the margin between championship team and playoff team is usually pretty thin. While I’d love a team that wins 105 games and is the best team wire to wire, I’m perfectly happy with a team that wins 90 on the road to the WS. The 89-73 Royals lost to the 88-74 Giants in 2014.

    My Dear Frobby

I fear the damage is done with dad.  This isn’t the first incident with the ST reps or the Orioles being unhelpful, however I fear for dad it’s the last.  And that really breaks my heart.

I haven’t had a good fan experience a single time this year, been to 5 or 6 games. Something has been off every single time and I was compelled to write an email last night. I’m skeptical it will ever be read, much less acted upon, but it felt like the thing to do.

It’s shocking to me, you would think a franchise with a terrible record in a sport that has seen declining interest would do everything possible to create a good environment.

As I said to a friend of mine, Hartford may be a terrible team (they’re the Orioles of the AA East at 21-58), but you’ve gotta love a team named the Yard Goats.

Yard Goats, Rumble Ponies and Rubber Ducks. Some good options in that division.

  12. A little surprised how high Austin Martin is, considering continued reports of positional questions. Guess there’s no reason to downgrade him after half a season.

I’m guessing DL would’ve been on the list if not for injury. Seemed to be pitching his way into the conversation.

How do they have AR as a 70? Seems way high. I'd have him as a 60 personally.

Do those FV numbers take position into account? If he put up the exact same numbers (obviously a big ask) he’d be the #1 or 2 catcher in the league, plus putting up good defensive value.

Without even going into the new draftees, there's Bradish, Baumann, Knight, and Kevin Smith. There's still time for Kremer and Akin to turn things around. Zimmerman looks like a solid option for back end. As bad as the big league club has been, I'm not all that down on our organizational pitching.

Agree on this. If we are looking for back end starters there is a good collection of guys in the minors that have a chance to become that.

I like the first two picks (esp the 2nd), hope they both can be fast movers and play some kind of roll by 2023. Am interested to see if Elias pursues more trades for undervalued SP prospects.
