  1. Eh, it was a bad move, but it was 3 years ago and I’m over it. I still take more umbrage with how the team managed four whole hits in 11 innings. I don’t know that the O’s would have scored again had the game gone 20.
  2. Agreed with everything here. It was definitely time for Buck and the organization to part ways, but fans should have nothing but kind words for this guy.
  3. Given the control he has left, he should be.
  4. Possible, but Rosenthal is already speculating that he’d be an unlikely playoff roster addition if the Sox make it, given the guys they should get back from the IL by then.
  5. Cashner is far from a hot commodity. He’s been good this year but he’s a rental that’s not a game-changer.
  6. I'm glad we have such an unbreakable record. Could one day be matched, but never beaten.
  7. Agreed... a lot of the early strain and bullpen overuse we've seen so far is simply April. The Orioles are far from the only team that have had starting pitchers sputter out of the gate this year and dump a lot of work on the bullpen.
  8. Maybe. Mancini and Villar truly are the only two position players on the 25-man that are truly MLB caliber. The pitching staff is borderline an abomination. Granted, that’s part of rebuilding, which is why I’m not worked up over it. This year (should) be the toughest year of it, because it’ll probably be July or August before we see the young guys that COULD be the beginning of the next core make their debuts. As it stands right now, I think it’s a safe bet that no one on the 25-man roster as of today will be on the 25-man the next time the Orioles end the season with a winning record.
  9. Ankiel wasn't given an option because the Cardinals didn't need to give him one at that stage in his career. Davis is a different scenario. And ultimately, I can't get mad at Chris Davis for not wanting to go be a sideshow in the minor leagues, riding the bus, when the Orioles really should have just released him already and moved on.
  10. I don't know precisely where you're going with this, but if my hunch is correct, it's patently unfair. What's happened with Chris Davis is truly astounding to behold. He's essentially forgotten how to hit a baseball. He's the position player version of Rick Ankiel. And no, I don't mean the Ankiel that came back and played outfield. I mean he's completely lost ala Ankiel the pitcher.
  11. Unless he could somehow simultaneously play all first and second base by himself - thus allowing the team a fourth outfielder - while occasionally sneaking over to shortstop, I don't think his glove can really hide that .000 average and enormous K rate...
  12. 5/7 with 4 homers is an OK ratio, I guess.
  13. Facts don't lie. The Nationals, ultimately, have been no more successful than the Orioles over the last decade. Of course, what really matters is the NEXT decade, wherein I strongly suspect the Nationals will be far more successful than the entirely rudderless Orioles.
  14. If Davis is going to continue to be on this roster and in this league next year, he needs to, among other things, go see a sports shrink. Five days a week. Change everything about his physical approach. It's Hail Mary time.
  15. I was never out on him to begin with. I think that was actually the first post I've made about him in about two years.
  16. I think he should be up on Opening Day next year and given every chance to see what he's got. Can't hurt anything. Not a prototypical player but has the potential to be a piece.
  17. Portland (where I now live) is really ramping up the pressure. Allegedly going to have settled on a location for a potential stadium very soon. Primarily being eyed for expansion but given that this area has some Bay Area fans already in it... they'd take the A's.
  18. He is a piece with future value. In all likelihood, his arbitration years will be up before this team is ready to compete again, so hopefully he has a good 2019 and becomes a piece we can trade for even more future assets.
  19. Yeah, he fills a spot and has some upside. I know some guys here have advocated trading everyone and their brother, but the truth of the matter is that 25 guys still have to take the field 162 times in 2019 and 2020, and many of the prospects we have in the system are 1-2 full years away from being ready to be those guys.
  20. Meh, given that his primary asset is his speed I don't know that I'd want him past age 30. If/when the team is ready to compete again, I expect he will be elsewhere.
  21. He's our second baseman for now and probably for next year, too. He's under team control for a couple of more years. Let him play, hope he returns to close to 2016 form and flip him somewhere down the road. Easy.
  22. I wonder if they're low on Pop simply because he's already a relief pitcher. Either way, nice little injection of young talent there.
  23. Should he ever make the big club, there's a 100% chance I use this ?every time he has a rough outing.
  24. It was also a case of getting the best talent they could get. And I'm with you - we aren't flush with bats in this system so much as we're enamored with the tiny handful of guys we've got.
