They could have a cutout in the RF wall, and if the ball goes in there it's a homer. But if it's 10' higher it's off the wall and in play!

Sounds like one of the dreams I had a few years ago. The ballpark was a mash-up of OPACY and my childhood back yard. In the last play of the game, Matt Wieters went hard into third on a triple, overslid and went all the way into the visitor's dugout and a brawl ensued. I think the ball he hit was in a tree in centerfield and it took a long time to bound down from the various limbs, thus the triple!

I'd like them to put the scoreboard in the dead space that is the left field upper deck which vary rarely fills up. Make it the Scoreboard Pavilion with standing room and social space.

I'd have no problem with that. And for the people who can't see that, that RF auxillary board I pasted in will help those folks, at least.

  3. I like the idea of field level outfield section built in the wall, but I'd hate to see the grounds crew dugout gone, but that's where it probably makes most sense, unless it could be built under the flag court or Walltimore.

Btw, this is as good a place as any to repost my idea for moving the scoreboard / Jumbotron so the historic Camden Station could be seen. By doing so, the centerfield rooftop bar could be almost tripled in size in my drawing. I don't care if the scoreboard blocks the view of the freeloaders on the balcony of the Hilton. I still have my grudge based on it blocking the Bromo Tower. This is my graphic of how it would look. Note the auxiliary scoreboard behind the seats in the right field corner.

And for good measure, redesign the top of the scoreboard to incorporate the Key Bridge into the design since The Sun logo is gone.

Speaking as an old "hippy".  This planet would be a much better place to live if their were more Bill Waltons walking among us.

When I was in my mid teens, his hippie ethic appealed to me and I followed his early NBA career when he was allowed to turn loose and be himself. I admired his playing in college, but I had to pull hard against him in his senior year as NC State was my hometown team and David Thompson was my guy. We all know how the '74 tournament went. But Walton was an intimidating presence on the court and that semi-final was one I dreaded. He had an amazing run at UCLA and as Frobby mentioned, the '73 title game was off the charts as far as domination and excellence, and propelled him straight into legend.

I didn't follow college nor NBA much in the last few decades, so I missed him as a commentator or analyst. But I'd heard a lot about how colorful he was.

Rest in peace, Bill. I'm so sorry for your loss, Roy. Thanks for sharing.

One observation that I noticed since ST.  And, hey, if it works who cares.  Holliday looks like he’s coming out of his shoes on almost every swing.  I’m sure Cowser, Kjerstad, and Mayo are taking max effort swings too.  But they look more in control.   He’s not a big guy compared to those three, Westburg and Henderson.  It looks like a small guy trying to keep up with the big guys.  And I know that Mookie Betts is not a big guy and you don’t have to be big to generate power but it doesn’t hurt.

I remember once he was asked about the all-star summer circuit in HS and why he didn’t do so well.  I’ll try to find the interview.  Essentially he said he was trying to do too much.

Good point about the big swing. Sometimes just trying to go opposite field helps guys make a breakthrough, too. I think the last five hits by Mounty were opposite field singles and doubles. And one of those games he got four hits, so he was onto something.

  6. I did a Google search of Jason La Canfora to see what he looked like. Based on what I read on here, he's a blowhard and jack leg. I was kind of hoping the photo was of the guy I was sitting next to on row 2 in Section 336 on Saturday vs. Diamondbacks. He was opinionated, obnoxious, loud, and argumentative with nearly everything we talked about. He was a young guy, maybe mid to late 20s, a bushy beard, dark hair, and wearing  a LOT of Orioles gear (socks, color-coordinated shoes, white O's jacket, and some specialty O's cap I didn't recognize). He said he had worked at 98 rock until last year. We got into a heated discussion about my proposal to move the main scoreboard in the offseason to the Hilton side behind the statue park,  as part of the 600 million dollars of upgrades,  and also so that the historic Camden Station could be seen from all of the seats. He was just relentless. I wanted to throw him over the rail.

After seeing his pic, I realize hit's not him, but I wonder who it was? He says he works for a high school now. He's not on OH, as I asked him.

My parting words were, "well, if they decided to do that, you can say you heard it first from an asshole sitting next to you on May 11th, 2024." My wife just snickered when she heard that.

  7. Richmond and Baltimore this weekend!

Secret Monkey Weekend, fresh off of our Emmy for the PBS documentary on our band and family (view at that link) is playing Friday in Richmond in Carytown at Garden Grove Brewing & Urban Winery at 8pm with Brilliant Mistakes, an Elvis Costello tribute.

But for you MD folks, we're after Saturday's O's game, 8pm at Monument City Brewing at 1 N. Haven St. We're 3rd among 4 cool groups and solo acts (one is DC's Brian K & The Parkway and the other is The Bootstrap Boys). We'd love to see you at one or the other!
