Heroin and cannabis are not equal. Nobody ever has ODed on THC. After nearly a century of mercenary science and judicial malfeasance, the majority of the country has begun to reject the notion that cannabis and opioids are even similar.

Some of the loudest voices in favor of testing for cannabis in order to punish users are people who drink alcohol. And most Americans imbibe the legal mind-altering substance caffeine - which has never been subject to punishment or even rebuke - despite people having died from excessive caffeine consumption (from powder or pills, not tea or coffee). Obviously, some people have failed to reach the level of understanding that cannabis is less similar to opioids when it comes to physical and psychological damage than caffeine and alcohol are.

I don’t have a problem with people using heroin.  I know lots of people who do.  Just seems like all are illegal so why choose one.

Sure, Seattle has over 160 confirmed cases.

But why should that interfere with the report on the Red Sox cheating?

Shouldn't MLB be able to do more than one thing at a time?

    It shouldn't.

I'm not saying the Coronavirus isn't important but why should it delay the announcement of the Red Sox punishment?

Just seems like they keep looking for reasons.

Any coronavirus cases in a MLB city yet?

What does "karaoke" mean in reference to an outfielder?  Hollander says that Mullins chases a fly ball back towards the track, karaokes, and comes up with it.

Hollander is easily my least favorite of the new additions to the broadcast team.

I assume he meant Carioca.  It’s a strength drill that most athletes do as part of a warmup

I may have liked The Iowa Baseball Confederacy better than Shoeless Joe.  But it's been 20+ years since I read either.  Maybe 30.  Something about a 6,000 inning game that lasted for months though epic storms and supernatural events.

    Me too

I think it is increasingly likely that Mancini is going to be traded, and Mountcastle will replace him.

it would solve too many problems and cause none that would be considered significant at the moment. The only question is, what does Texas have to offer that we really want?

    International money?

I agree--I remember consistently feeling in close games that season that, if we can get to Trumbo's turn in the lineup with men on base, we had a good chance. I just looked up his clutch and RISP stats and they largely bear that out. There was also the curiosity of him having extreme reverse-platoon splits that season: he was a terror vs. RHP (.932 OPS), i.e. in the preponderence of his at-bats.

Trumbo had great opening and closing months of the 2016 season and it was his two-run homer that kept us in the wild card game until Buck's eternally mystic decision in the 11th inning. Personality-wise, he and Adam were a curious study in contrast of leadership style; I think they somehow managed to complement each other. If you look at the roster, in fact, one could say that team had a lot of unit leaders (Britton, Wieters, Hardy) and more balance than we give it credit for. It also had the unforgettable Hyun Soo Kim: .302/.382/.420/.801 (116 OPS+).

There wouldn’t have been extra inning playoffs without his bat either

As a Baltimore City College HS grad now in Arlington with a Nats fan wife and a 4-year old who was counting balls and strikes last World Series that I'm not yet sure how he's going to turn out, I do feel a keen sense of gratitude and appreciation for those in the DC Metro area who grew up with and have stuck with the O's.

I can't place specific memories before my Age-6 season, and hope 2 years is enough for Adley etc. to outgrow Scherzer/Strasburg for those key formative years, plus I can't even help myself but to like "Enormous Problem in this Area" Juan Soto a little bit too.  He just looks too much like Eddie in the box (as does Adley) for the banked childhood affinities in my reptile brain to really resist.

So thanks Eve, and....do a good job, do a good job, do a good job.

My kid didn’t even know DC had a team until he was 7 or 8.  He thought people were wearing Walgreens hats ?
    I couldn’t have been prouder.

Baseball still has much more variety than any other sport. No other sport has varying distances in its field of play. That in itself provides some variety.

I'm onboard with a universal DH, but I wonder if it opens the door for more playing time for no-hit SS or C types. I also wonder if/when a team will use the DH to replace said light hitting defensive whiz rather than the pitcher (when, say, Ohtani or Bumgarner are on the mound).

The universal DH could also open the door to more two-way players. While you don't have pitchers hitting as frequently. You have more opportunities to use a pitcher at the plate without the threat of using him in the field, too.

In MLB the DH has to be used for a pitcher.

Aside from the players that wouldn't even consider the team.

We’re there any from 2013-2016?  Not given you a hard time, just don’t remember any.  I think sucking is why most people don’t want to play for the Orioles.

Yeah anyone can play a lot of positions badly.  You could put Chris Davis at Shortstop if you wanted for example.   And Beckham is even worse at Third than at Shortstop.  His high strike out rate and his low OBP make him very un-fun player to watch.  Add that to his upcoming suspension and he might be an even worse hitter if he stops taking PEDs.

I don't see the need to bring Beckham even on a minor league deal.  It is like rubbing salt into our wounds.  If you are going to get someone awful at least have someone who we haven't seen before.

    Like Steve Wilkerson??

According to Roch who quoted multiple sources, the O's have interest in Beckham for a MiLB deal.

I had been think that he was a good fit,  but didn’t feel like braving the reaction ?

I was just doing a projected 26 man roster and came back to this thread. It really looks like when Mountcastle is promoted is when Davis will have to be removed from the roster.

I totally agree with your lineup.

    SP Cobb
    SP Means
    SP Stewart
    SP Wojo
    SP Akin or Hess
    SP/RP Bailey
    RP Fry
    RP Rucker
    RP Armstrong
    RP Bleier
    RP Kline or Tate
    RP Harvey
    RP Givens
    RP Castro
    C Severino
    1B Mancini
    2B Alberto
    3B Ruiz
    SS Iglesias
    LF Mountcastle
    CF Hays
    RF Santander
    DH Nunez
    Bench DJ Stewart or Wilkerson
    Bench Wilkerson, Urena or Martin
    C Sisco

If Mancini isn’t traded, I totally agree. He has to go at that point unless he can magically hit again.
