I think regardless of the sport, you got the pricks, the really great guys, and then you got some that are kinda of nice, but can be a prick at times. -

Woe, Dad was a GS-13 too, made grade pretty fast and then plateaued there until he retired. Now that you mentioned it, I think we got to about 3 Senator games a season, probably one a month in June, July and August. Almost always on a give away day. Compared to some stadiums like Memorial Park, RFK had relatively decent parking situation and was pretty brand new. Built in 61. Back then, we didnt care about megatron scoreboards and other amenities, of course, now that we have them, how did we live without them. -

To be honest, I think its more about where the world has changed financially. They didn't have much discretionary money for entertainment. The ones that had the money, were afraid to spend it, remembering how they or their parents lost everything when the stock market crashed. I was raised by a pretty successful moderate high middle class on a very good Government GS grade scale. We ate out, once a month at McDonalds, if we was lucky. We ate out at sit down restaurants when we travel on vacation to see our grandparents. Look at the demographics, the avg MLB fan are not youngsters, they grew up loving the game before cable. -

I remember my first rent on a 1 bedroom apartment was $200 a month and thought it was too high. LOL I think I was making 7,500 a year as an entry level job. Boy, that takes me back a few decades. -

I remember when i was young and working for peanuts, even small raises like .25 cents an hour was welcome. At the time, it beat no raise. -

I feel the same way about Hollywood celebrities. If you pay your main star of the money 25 Million, that cost gets pass down to the ticket holders at the theaters. Why, so he can buy another house or car that he probably wouldnt use? I cant remember which actor, maybe Mel Gibson, but he unloaded a bulk of all his properties here and there. He said, he was paying staff to take care of places, he hadnt even brother to visit and have vehicles there for him to drive, yet, he hadnt even bothered to use them. -

I suspect even some of the smaller profit teams are protected by an LLC, just in case the guy or gal loses their team due to money or lawsuits, etc, their personal home and assets are typically safe, unless you owe the IRS. -

I thought MIL teams gave up on fielding competitive teams at the MIL level and winning MIL playoff games was secondary, and their number 1 goal was player development. A long time ago, a famous money man, cant remember who. Said if you want to make money, dont buy a sports team, while they make money, their goal is more entertainment, then trying to run a business to see how much you can squeeze out of it. Oh well, I am in the minority with you all today. But, I still respect your opinions. -

Its not irrational, to develop players into big leaguers. Do all college turn a profit, or are some supported by state budget and deep alumni pockets, as their mission is to develop young adults into future income earners? I do not equate Bowie Baysox with Home Depot next door to their stadium. Sorry, I just dont agree. So that makes me irrational? Lets just agree to disagree. -

No I wouldnt. But, I think I explained that I dont recall the MIL as a business, just to turn a profit. Of course, only my opinion. With the contraction of the MIL are they actually going to raise the income for the players which in some cases is below the poverty line? -

John Thomspon Sr when coaching at Georgetown would tell his whole squad in preseason. If one of you makes it to the NBA bench, then you are doing what the numbers say will happen. But, he also tells those that are drafted, 1 car, 1 house, 1 piece of gold, and ditch the posse hangerons, they are just going to suck you dry of your money. -

Some of the minor league teams are doing very well for themselves, I wonder how many of them are losing money? I dont see the MIL as a for profit business which they are. But, they are also in the development player business. So you have to invest time and energy into a prospect to give them a chance at the bigs. -

Ok, fair enough, so my thought process was wrong. But, the end result of this, town lose teams and jobs, and the owner get richer. Im not saying the current MIL model doesnt need revamping or tweaking, to improve things. But what is the prime motivation here for change? -

IMO. I will leave the actual numbers to the ones that do it better. But, just say, these the numbers. 70% of all the prospects will fail to have a legitimate pro career and that doesnt count a few games in the expanded season rosters. So you reduce the number of teams, from what 240 to 160? (Again not sure what the actual contractual numbers are) I dont think the percent of the prospect chances increase. But, you just lost 30% of 80 teams worth of players in the major leagues Which will at some point, impact the quality of the players on the 26 man roster. Maybe I am all wet, wont be the first time, but this is how I perceive things to be. -

Contraction. Is it because the teams are tired of supporting the minor league system the way we know it, and cut down on expenses, so they can have a higher profit line. Because we all know, none of the MLB are losing money. -

Previous strikes hurt baseball pretty deep and lost fans. I think if the players caused the 2020 season to be missed, would be unforgivable by some friends, in this pandemic crisis. Are the players greedy, yes, they are. Are the Owners greedy, yes, they are. Is there money to be made on both sides, yes there is. So figure out a a fair and equitable solution for all.
