  2. Yes, very very early, but you gotta like the high strikeout numbers. You would think, if anything, two or three of these guys will be future bullpen studs for the orioles.
  3. imagine having two more drafts exactly like this one we just had. our minor league system would be over saturated with quality pitching prospects.
  4. I had a thought similar to this but more along the lines of, with the regime of Mike Elias and all of the new front office staff and instructors. Are there some prospects in the orioles system that don't fit what we're trying to do has an organization but have more value to other organizations? Example: Brennan Hanifee is a tall, built, athletic pitcher who throws heavy fastballs that stay low in the zone. Last year he produced so many groundouts but had very low strikeout numbers. He was very effective but was a pitch to contact pitcher. Elias and the Orioles new system has put a heavy emphasis on strikeouts (as they should) but maybe there is an organization out there that would value Hanifee a lot more than our current regime does. His numbers aren't great this year, but thats because he's trying to change his pitching style to fit the new direction of the organization. Do we have more players like this that might be valued higher by other organizations than the orioles value them? Could we get prospects that fit more of our new direction?
  5. In a year of suck, the orioles actually have two starting pitchers who are pitching very well. The reason for their success? The gutsiest pitch in all of baseball..... the changeup. I remember reading an article towards the beginning of the year where John Means said it was Doug Brocail who worked with him during spring training to futher develop his changeup. Now, Cashner has stepped it up and has become a dependable starter on the back of a very effective change up. I wonder if this will be the orioles thing for the next few years? A successful rotation built on the development of an effective change up
  6. It will be interested to observe the trajectory of this class of pitchers. Because of the lack of bullpen talent in our minors, I think the guys who start out and stay as bullpen arms will progress through the system much faster than the guys who are given the opportunity to stick as a starter.
  7. I've been very pleasantly surprised by how well everyone has thrown so far. Just from my observations, I have seen very few earned runs but a lot of strikeouts. The one weird thing is I'm not sure if a for sure starting pitching prospect has jumped out at me. Almost every guy has thrown one maybe two inning outings.

    Ty France

    Did we pick him up?
  9. Because one time in middle school he hurt his shoulder playing football. It healed, he moved on, but when media critics tried to find something to ding him for entering the draft. This old shoulder injury was the only thing they could find. He's not injured..... He doesn't need rest.....
  10. No way we get O'neil Cruz for Givens. I'd trade cashner, villar, and givens for O'neil Cruz haha
  11. To save people time, mention of dax stubbs in last paragraph of the article just saying him along other names are the next wave of talent from the bahamas
  12. switch hitting short stop 16 year old who is six foot tall. Let's sign as many guys like this as we can.
  13. This made me chuckle but there's a lot of truth to this. Especially the fact that these guys are the first legitimate class of international guys who will be followed (by us on the board) much more closely than other intl class.
  14. I think he'll add a couple ticks to his fastball and he's already reported to have a high spin rate on the fastball which might make it play up a little bit. Develop an average off speed and we have something.
  15. Right-handed pitcher Charbel Abboud (2019) of Venezuela led all pitchers with six strikeouts. Right-handed pitcher Diego Navarro ('19) and lefty Luis Baldiris ('20) each struck out five batters while eligible right-handers Angel Ramirez and Cristian Nunez from the Dominican Republic each struck out four. Abboud’s fastball averaged 90.3 mph and topped out at 93.4 mph. The spin rate on the pitch was up to 2,528 rpm, topping the MLB average of 2,263 rpm for fastballs. - This is from an article on a showcase for international prospects this past February
  16. I understand he has less than 100 PA, but Anthony Santander has been a bright spot to finish out this first half of the year.
  17. 6'4" Center Fielder who's only 16. Yeah, I'll take that!
  18. This seems like a great first draft by Elias. Obviously AR makes this draft great regardless, but you can tell Elias had a plan/strategy going into the draft and stuck to it.
  19. I originally had a question that I think Elias answered in a recent interview but I'll still ask it: The guys we will sign on July 2nd are not currently on a DSL team but we are anticipating all of them to be signed and then immediately placed on a DSL team? Do we have enough open roster spots for these guys? Will the July 2nd signing group push some of the top preformers currently on DSL teams to the GCL team?
  20. I'm pretty certain its the middle georgia guy as well. his stats aren't overwhelming but he's a high OBP catcher
  21. Division II and Division III players as in what level of baseball they played in college. We drafted a guy from randolph macon (D-III), like northwest missouri or something like that (DII). I have no idea what level the colorado school or mines is but what we got a guy from there. These were just the ones off the top of my head but there are a couple more we drafted. I think it's safe to say that we drafted a lot more D-II and D-III players than anyone else.
  22. In this draft, we selected a handful of DII and DIII players. As a scout under Elias regime, how do you evaluate the players in relation to DI and/or HS guys?
  23. You have a link for this? I tried looking up stats and couldn't find any. Kinda looked like they were playing there first game today
