  1. Gotta love someone who is self-aware. Just kidding.
  2. I understand your view but I think if Hyde remained in the dugout, things could have become much worse. I think things like that happen in any major league clubhouse from time to time. The problem with this one is it was in the dugout and caught on camera. Remaining in the dugout wouldn't have helped in my opinion.
  3. I have no idea exactly what happened either but would you have preferred Hyde staying and getting into a physical altercation?
  4. Blach cleared waivers and was assigned to Norfolk.
  5. I would. And I think we will. Although "improving the pen" will come from rookies rather than offseason signings for the most part.
  6. The Astros are going to pay two-thirds of the remaining $77 million owed to him, and the Diamondbacks got four of Houston’s top-30 prospects in return https://www.si.com/mlb/2019/07/31/zack-greinke-trade-houston-astros
  7. But to go spend money signing 3-4 relievers is a band aid, a half measure. Every post you make is contrary to the idea of "I don't have a problem with a total rebuild."
  8. Any post that incorporates "suppositions" is a good post.
  9. Are you suggesting that the O's should have kept Cashner and put him in the pen? At his salary?
  10. I think the A's discovered during the Moneyball time frame.
  11. Obtain great value for Mancini, Villar and Givens. Ownership continue to give Elias the resources he needs to build things right. Elias is able to hire minor league coaches and development folks and build the infrastructure he didn't have time to build last year. The new minor league coaches and developmental guys will be names that are not well known. It's going to be very interesting to me to learn who these new guys are, where they came from, and how they go about remaking the developmental system.
  12. The Marlins at 52-98 seem more significant than the Royals at 56-95.
  13. Must be a high spin rate guy. Strikeouts have been up and down so I'm guessing they believe he has a good pitch he isn't throwing often enough or that can be improved.
  14. Not sure that's believable.
  15. Some team might even use a centerfielder as a closer.
  16. He wasn't fired. The Rangers created a new position for him. https://www.dallasnews.com/sports/rangers/2019/08/24/why-the-rangers-restructured-the-role-of-player-development-director-matt-blood/
  17. I give you credit. You never fail to look for failure. I don't know the answer to your question but there's an article suggesting he's not the easiest guy to get along with. The other side of that coin is he wants things done the way he says and doesn't mind demanding it. Same thing happened over and over with the Astros and Luhnow. And remember, the Rangers didn't let him go or non-renew him or fire him. They gave him a new title and it's anyone's guess whether that was an upward or downward move. I'm gonna look at things from a positive perspective. I believe what is said about this guy, that being that he has a ton of very good connections. And since Elias and Mejdal have known this guy for a long time, I'm going to trust their judgment.
  18. From an article when he was hired by the Rangers: This is an intriguing hire, as not only have the Rangers gone outside the organization for this hire, but they’ve gone a non-traditional route, as Blood had been the director for the USA Baseball U18 National Team. Blood was named to that position in January, 2016, after seven years of being an area scout for the St. Louis Cardinals — which means he worked for current g.m. of the Houston Astros, Jeff Luhnow, for a while. So he would have worked with Elias and Mejdal in StL.
  19. Not until May. There's a conspiracy afoot to upset can_of_corn until then with Mountcastle.
  20. Especially when combined with sauntering.
