  1. I get the full on impression that most think that our pitching prospects are going to come up and be good right away. That happens a lot less times than you all think. They arrive with expectations and then fail because, well, they are now facing real live big league lineups. Typically it takes a year or two after arrival in the majors for them to put it together. There are always outliers to this, but i do believe it is the norm to struggle for a year or two. Same for hitters. Typically start off hot, then need time to figure out how to adjust to the opposing pitchers having adjusted to them. Hence the "sophomore slump" that at least 90% hit. They need to get some of these youngsters ready to be coming out of their sophomore slump's before becoming contenders. '24 at the earliest as i see it.
  2. I'm sorry but the memory of the ball bouncing off a sliding for the catch Stewart is stuck in my head as first impression of him. Same as the memory of Jim Traber sliding headfirst into second but instead of sliding he bounced on his belly and stopped 6 feet short of the bag. Some things just stick in my mind.
  3. Maybe he will BEDAZZLE us! Had to. I just did.
  4. Hey now, Stewart makes the highlight reels for heading the baseball and otherwise looking like he never played in the OF before that game. I laugh at those highlights.
  5. I gave it an F. For what seems like obvious reasons but my biggest concern is the overabundance of apparently mediocre/low upside outfielders early and often. I think Cowser was a fine pick. Norby was a good pick. The glut of OF that are going to cause what last year's run on MI is causing now in the minors has the appearance of "maybe one of these guys will develop into a good utility guy". Let's throw this SS prospect into CF so he can get enough ab's to evaluate. Gee Wally, this stuff makes very little sense to me. And pitching. I'm not an expert. But drafting college seniors and POST GRAD STUDENTS? And where are the HS guys that need developing? I guess they were all out of them at Pitchers R Us. On the surface this looks HORRIBLE. I have the feeling it is going to turn out that bad too (better not take 5 years to develop college SENIORS). Next year the obvious choice is to scout the Retirement Homes for more Seniors.
  6. We need at least 4 or 5 more OF to make this a GREAT draft!
  7. And now pitching for the Orioles, Outfielder X X .
  8. If Alan Wiggins could stick at 2B, this guy should be able to. Would've been better if he ran the ball to first than threw it.
  9. I did a renovation project on Wake Forest's baseball stadium while he was still in college (Gavin). I have to say that he looks less like a linebacker than his dad did.
  10. Sadly, Matt Riley had a million dollar arm but a 10 cent head. I interviewed him for the CL Beat, a small rag that was around for only a couple of years. After my interview I could only shake my head. He was spending money he didn't have yet and thinking he was a BIG STAR as he was blowing away Single A hitters. He was basically a 2 pitch thrower with the high heat fastball and knee buckling curve. As he moved up and couldn't find the strike zone that curve was useless as you could sit on red and feast. He had one of the nicest catchers that i ever met there in Frederick in Cesar Devares, whom i credit a lot of his success to.
  11. "They" are saying the 4 HS SS, college C and 2 college P's all are every bit a top 5 pick. By my math that's 7 players. Also am hearing a lot of there is a far drop off in talent after those guys. So if we were to go underslot with someone in the 10-15 range it sounds like it would be a bad move. Of course i'm no expert but if Watson is there at 5, he needs to be in black and orange.
  12. I wonder if another team will sign him. I seen JC Encarnacion in 2019 with Delmarva. He had a long loopy swing. Batted fourth first time i seen him, 3 bad swinging strikeouts. Second time he was batting 8th, he took another 3 strikeout day and looked horrible at 3rd base. HORRIBLE. I'm actually surprised he was even invited back.
  13. I read about this a couple weeks ago. The host "billet" families was cancelled this year due to the virus. And the Orioles are far from being the only team involved with their minor leaguers having to find their own living arrangements. Why dormitory housing is not provided is beyond me, BUT it is the way it has been forever so ... It is the same way it is in hockey. In Juniors anyway (under 20 yrs old). Billet families are the best.
  14. X WHOA BACON, that is comedy gold right there!
  15. I have to say that Carlos Vicioso is a great baseball name. Hope he murders the ball.
  16. I want to see more footage of Elio Prado myself. The scouting report i seen has my interest!
  17. I always wanted to visit the Metronome ...
  18. I can't remember the year but watching the outfielders trying to catch fly balls in the snow on opening day. It was a cold April afternoon.
  19. I'm thinking 66. Tough start but improvement through the summer as hopefully some pitching prospects make their first impressions (Lowther, Baumann, the Aussie Wells).
  20. I am most interested in seeing if any of Harvey, Galvis and Franco will have a strong enough first half to gain any real prospects at the deadline, or are we still in 17 yr old lottery land. Sorry I didn't include LeBlanc as i don't see anything there.
  21. Can we call it the 3 k's or bust tour?
  22. If the O's were to draft Leiter, we would hear too much about how "the ball looks so fluid out of Leiter's hand ... " I'll be here all week, try the fish.
  23. I agree. They were signed to hopefully be traded at or before the deadline.
  24. Reading this thread shows just how much the game has changed. I used to go to the games to see the "games inside the game" that went on sometimes pitch by pitch. You can't see that on tv. I was a season ticket holder (13 to 29 games) from 1989-2002 and attended an awful lot of games without paying for parking (used the light rail at OPACY), food (eat on the way to the park), or drink. Yes, i have many books of scorecards kept during those years. Pitch counts, balls, strikes, etc i have a system. I do still do this at minor league games. This is what i like to do at games, rather than walk the concourse, go shopping at crazy prices, or try to get drunk for close to a week's paycheck. I'm really not a fan of watching on tv since Mel Proctor/John Lowenstein were canned. Now i get my fix at minor league games, which i would rather see these guys trying like hell to get to the big leagues than seeing the showboating bat flipping bs so many stars do. Manny lost a lot of my respect seeing him act so non-chalant in not running out grounders and not giving his all in the field before being traded. MLB has basically priced out the fans of my ilk from going to many games a season anymore. What working man can afford to go to 29 games now? Certainly not me. I would rather go to see the game being played than play on my smart phone. I can do that in the bathroom.
  25. I fully expect Elias to do plenty of waiver wire dumpster diving at the end of ST and during the season, IF there is anything resembling an almost normal season.
