  1. So thanks to Vieira we'll have to burn Perez and probably another reliever for the 9th.
  2. Cowser has a great arm, but his accuracy has been terrible this year.
  3. I was watching Ronald Guzman, who is trying to convert himself into a pitcher after being a major league first baseman, pitch like this yesterday. Guzman throws 96-97 from the left side, but like Vieira, has no idea where anything is going. I understand the Orioles trying guys with good arms, but at least Guzman is trying in A-ball. Can't have guys like Vieira pitching in the major leagues. I mean, if you want an inning eater, get a guy with less stuff but who can throw strikes.
  4. This is an embarrassment. Clearly not a major league pitcher.
  5. I had very low expectations for him and he's actually under performed them.
  6. Well so much for not having to burn other relievers.
  7. Vieira looks exactly like the guy we thought he was.
  8. The game they're broadcaster doesn't hurt, but I'm definitely enjoying them.
  9. Good point. It's like getting swept just pissed them off.
  10. Wait, you mean Stowers can hit? Who knew? Oh wait...
  11. BTW, I'm enjoying the Geoff Arnold and Greg Olson broadcast. Both ply off each other well.
  12. You're secret is safe with me Jon! Whoops!
  13. The Orioles were not interested in doing them this year. Guess they don't need us like they did when no one went.
  14. Lots of good times out there! Hangout nights were always fun!
  15. Agreed. I doubt we see Vieira long. He's a lot like Fuji.
  16. Thank you for getting this thread back to baseball. I was wondering why this thread was so popular than I looked through it and thought I was in the Hangout Club forum. I don't have a lot of hope that Vieira is going to be very good suddenly, but I guess he an arm that can be used if they need a guy to eat a few innings in "garbage time" if they have it.
  17. What I'd like to know is, who initiated this trade? Was this about taking a flier on Viera or getting a lottery ticket for eating Viera's contract? My guess it's the latter as none of Viera's pitches have much movement. He's just a guy that throws hard with little command.
  18. I just wish I had all the info on the minor leaguers. I love statcast data.
  19. Tell you what, Fedde is just living on the edge of the strikezone. Impressive.
  20. I've been one that has said he's adequate in CF but better suited for the corners because of his size. Saying that, let's take a look at the numbers from statcast and forget my eyes on approach during the minors. Cowser has 75 percentile sprint speed on the bases and here's his jump numbers. They are not broken down between LF and CF. Cowser also has 99 percentile arm strength but as we've seen, he's not an accurate thrower. We know Mullins plays an above average CF and he has 67.7 percentile spring speed on the bases and here's his jump numbers. Mullins also has 49th percentile throwing. The one stat that jumps out to me is Feet covered which total feet covered against the direct route to the ball in the first three seconds (not relative to average). Mullins gets the edge here by 2 feet. Players run at different speed when tracking flyballs but according to this good but complicated article from fangraphs, burst most correlates to OAA. Overall though, I don't see any reason Cowser can't play CF based on the numbers we're seeing, but I don't have his number broken down in CF vs LF/RF. He may slow down quicker because of his size, but for now, he's running very well on the go and while he may not get to every ball Cedric will get to, I don't think it's going to be such a downgrade that we'd be pining for Cedric. So it comes down to this in my opinion, do you want Cedric or Hays's bat in the lineup? I wish Stowers or Kjerstad would be taken into consideration here in LF, but I don't think the Orioles will go that route. If Cowser can adequately play CF, and I think he can, that can put Mullins in more of a 4th outfielders role filling in for Hays and Santander, moving Cowser to those positions since he can play all 3. Cowser has been impressive defensively this year, even before his catch last night.
  21. He's now listed as the starter and Povich is listed as the starter in Norfolk. This tells me that they expect Kremer back as soon as his IL time is up, which is a good thing. I still rather have him start, Suarez in the bullpen and send Vespi or Tate back, but IEWT.
