  1. It's too early to say with the new ownership. the obvious answer was no with the Angelos-led ownership. Ask me this next spring after new ownership has a chance to get their feet under them.
  2. He won't be in a Nevin-like role. If he comes up, he'd probably be the DH against lefties and most likely the 3B against righties.
  3. Friday actually works better for me so I hope it actually happens.
  4. Thanks, I'll check it out. I typically only use MLBTV for spring training but didn't get it this year.
  5. And that is why he's a 26th/27th man on a roster/AAA depth. His lack of game power and defensive ability is why he's not a legitimate major league starter. But, he's fine as a placeholder until the Orioles get the 7th season of control over Mayo. If Nevin is still here on May 1st and Mayo is killing it in Norfolk, I'll have an issue. Until then this is Elias using his roster flexibility for he good of the franchise now and in the future.
  6. Perhaps, but Norby has little positional flexibility and had an option, something Nevin doesn't. I doubt Nevin makes it to May on the roster and it will be easier to squeeze him through waivers a few weeks into the season. Elias is all about keeping as much depth as possible and getting as much controllability as the CBA allows with super prospects. None of this is really surprising if you ask me. Right now Nevin looks like the DH against lefties and can fill in at 3B,1B and corner outfield if needed. Clearly Mayo is a better player overall right now, but where does Mayo play against righties? if 3B was your answer, I agree, and if I'm a better man, somewhere between 2-3 weeks over his control time is met, he will be up here in that role and Nevin will be DFA'd. Think of Nevin as gaining a 7th season of control out of Mayo.
  7. With Holliday going to see a lot of time at 2B to prep him for the majors, have to imagine Norby is going to get a lot of corner outfield time. I'd also like to see him get some 3B time to try and make him a little more versatile though I don't think he has the hands or first step quickness to be good there.
  8. This. Nevin is not going to play everyday and both Norby and Mayo need to. Besides, Norby does not have a lot of positional flexibility and while Nevin is not very good defensively wherever he plays, he does play 3B/!B and corner outfield. Nevin won't be here all year. Mayo will end up with a lot more major league PAs this year than Nevin.
  9. The Orioles are expected to see a lot of left-handers early in in the first two series and I think they want Nevin for these games. I doubt he'll still be on the roster by May unless there is an injury, and even then I expect Mayo to be up before him if there is every day PAs available at 3B or 1B.
  10. Baker had an option remaining and Webb does not so that basically was the difference. My guess is Baker will pitch at least 30 innings this year with the Orioles. The opening day roster is not the roster the Orioles are going to use all year. It's set to keep the most depth in the organization.
  11. Does this guys create these charts or finds them somewhere? Seems like he's getting the data from fangraphs which is getting them from statcast.
  12. While I think the Yankees will give him the most money and he'll sign there, I would not be surprised to see the Orioles make a run for Jordan Montgomery once the season starts. Especially if he's willing to do a 1-2 year deal with an opt out similar to Snell, but for less money.
  13. Teheran would be nice to have in AAA, but I'm sure he's going to try and see where the best opportunity is for him to start in the big leagues this year. He's pitched ok, but yeah, that stuff was going to struggle against the AL East lineups if you ask me.
  14. Today would not be the time to discuss the merits of the Angelos stewardship of the Orioles. RIP and condolences to his family.
  15. It's not fun from a fan standpoint, especially after Elias' offseason remarks on Holliday and then Holliday's performance this spring, but it absolutely makes sense from a free agency standpoint. It mostly likely won't be just 15 days because Elias needs the optics to look like it really was about his lack of ability to hit lefties and to get more experience at 2B. Depending on how the team is doing and how Westburg/Urias are performing it certainly could be longer.
  16. Until he ran out of steam, which was the issue.
  17. I think you right. Most of us just thought Wells was the obvious choice to go to the pen. But he has outpitched Kremer this spring.
  18. Because of his August/Sept time the year before, the Orioles gained nothing by keeping Gunnar down to start last season.
  19. I think he will be with Kjerstad sent back. He can play all three outfield positions and while he's left-handed, he provides more stick than McKenna. Saying that, I would not put it past the Orioles to try and keep McKenna early on because of the left-handers expected to be faced in the first two series and then try and DFA him a few weeks in when he may get through easier.
  20. I don't think Hyde sets his lineup so I'd change that to the "Orioles" are not exactly masters of finding ABs for promising prospects. I think Hyde is part of the process when it comes to giving information on the health/sickness/tiredness of the player but most of the time is going with the lineup spit out by the computer.
  21. I wonder with Wells pitching the 3rd game and Kremer the 4th, was Wells really the guy who was going to be out of the rotation if Bradish and Means did not come to camp hurt/behind?
  22. I like Grayson and think he's going to be fine, but he did not have a great spring and got off to a cold start last year as well. Hopefully he will right the ship in the 2nd game of the season.
  23. As long as Holliday gets pulled up by late April, I still think he has a chance to win ROY depending on his performance and the performance of other candidates.
  24. The one thing that is not being talked about is that Kjerstad hit his way off this team while Cowser hit his way on to the team. I just hope the Orioles find a way to get Cowser semi-regular at bats and don't Stowers him early in the season.
