  1. This makes me concerned that the price for any kind of impact reliever that could potentially be available will be really high. We all know the Orioles need at least one more impact arm in their bullpen, but at what cost?

    Cade Povich 2023

Potentially. He's got major league stuff, Just depends on how his consistency of command comes around.
  3. There's always been that "clutch" argument and whether it exists or not. I personally think it does because players are human and some people handle stress better than others. Now whether it's a consistent trait or not I don't know, but the numbers show Frazier has been clutch this year because high leverage, 8th nd 9th inning numbers are off the charts this year. All I know is he's done a great job in those opportunities and has rarely had unproductive at bats late in close games. I'll take that on a playoff bound team then a guy who all over the place and not consistent in any part of his game. Mateo had a great defensive year last year but he's proven he can't hit consistently and his defense suffers when he's not playing regularly.
  4. No disrespect at all because I don't put them on until they have played at least one game! I have a general idea based off their profiles and draft status who will be on the lists and where though.
  5. hmm, this made me look up their high leverage stats: Rutschman: .213/.372/.344/.716 in 61 PAs with a 16 Bb to 4 K ratio Frazier: .340/.419/.547/.967 in 65 PAs with a 7 BB to 9 K ratio So while I don't know if I'd got that far, Frazier has certainly outperformed him and probably every other Orioles in high leverage situations this year. This is why I like off the bench.
  6. Damn you for making me take up for Frazier, but here it goes. I do like Frazier on the bench. While he's not very good defensively at 2B anymore, he can play there as well as RF in a pinch. But the real reason to keep him is he's a left-handed bat with an infield that could include Urias, Westburg and hopefully Ortiz soon. Frazier has been great in clutch situations and he's proven he can still have quality at bats when he's not playing regularly. Add in his above average ability to make contact and put the ball in play, I think he's a guy that is good for the bench.
  7. I can't think of a scenario where O'Hearn would not be tendered after what he's done so far. He'd need a epic Mateo level implosion offensively over the last two months of the season.
  8. Yeah, he's been very competent over there without a lot of experience. He even has a 1 OAA over there making it his best defensive position according to their metrics.
  9. @CHIP has been describing his issues througout the board and can give you a batter breakdown. I'd just say he looks very inexperienced over there ad needs a ton of work to be playable at 1B at the major league level.
  10. He's basically unplayable at 1B right now and below average in his jumps and routes from what I've seen in corner outfield. His below average speed (45) doesn't make up for it.
  11. That was an oversight probably because he's the most untouchable I wouldn't consider him for just about anyone that would be available.. Absolutely he belongs there. I'll fix that.
  12. Only Kjerstad's below average running and defense keeps him off the list for me for now. But he's still not a guy I'm giving up for a rental or a reliever.
  13. While I'm not a huge fan of any kind of stare down, when you are dominating and he pumps every one else, great. But when your struggling and you get one guy on K and do it, It's a bit embarrassing to tell you the truth.
  14. From the big club, I'm ok with moving Mateo, Urias, Mountcastle, and McKenna even though with the injuries in CF McKenna has become more valuable. I actually may take a look at Mateo out there if they want to keep him on the team. For Prospects, the guys that have good value that I'm ok to move in the right deal are: Willems Norby Stowers Fabian Wagner Prieto Hall Beavers Anyone from 17 and below on the Prospect Power Rankings Guys I'd move but only for an absolute impact player with some retainability (not a half year rental) Westburg Cowser Kjerstad Ortiz Povich Untouchable for me: Holliday Mayo Basallo
  15. We really don't know what Elias's M.O. is when trying to take a competing team and make it one that could go deep into October. He's never been in this situation so I don't think you can completely judge his potential actions by his previous actions. Mateo can be an above average defender at SS when he plays everyday, but we've seen him rally take a step back in that part-time role. I don't know if it's in his head that he's no longer a starter or what, but it's clear his defense has not been reliable late in games of late.
  16. Good synopsis overall on the situation. The key portion is that he's incapable of even providing good defense when he's in a part-time role. That means he's not a good bench guy even if his positional versatility and speed should make him one. He struggled in that role in SD which led to his DFA and Orioles acquisition. Gunnar has proven he can play SS effectively and if they bring up Ortiz, they have that defense option late in games when Hyde likes to use match ups with certain players. It's time. This team is clearly competing for not just a playoff spot, but to go deep into October. Ortiz is a better player than Mateo and even in a part-time role, he can help the team even if his bat struggles in that role. Saying that, I do think Ortiz can getting 3-4 or even 5 starts week in if Hyde is willing to continue to cut back Urias and Frazier's PAs.
  17. Or the player made an absolutely awful play. Statcast data on release points and movement are rarely wrong and there's so much data that it evens out.
  18. Not according to statcast release points. I know not everyone saw my analysis of him but Ben keeps saying something that the statcast data does not suggest. It's location mainly for Cano has batters have adjusted and are not missing those middle-middle sinkers even with the movement.
  19. If you can not count on Mateo's defense, and clearly when he's not playing everyday you can't, I'm not sure what his role is on this team besides pinch runner. Mateo had the same issue defensively when he was sub in SD and with the Orioles his first year when he got moved around a bit. Like some guy are not good bench hitters because they need regular at bats to have success, I think we're seeing the same thing with Mateo's defense. Last night, the fact that he did not steal in the 9th also tells me may not be fully healthy. They either need to IL him with a pothole injury or see if they can trade/DFA-trade him for a C-level relief pitching prospect that doesn't require being put on the 40-man. It's time. As for Ortiz, while I'd rather him get pretty regular PAs, he can help this team at least defensively in Mateo's role. You also can start him at SS, Gunnar over to 3B, and Westburg at 2B. This also allows the team to give Henderson more days off to keep him fresh for September/October. Westburg/Urias and Frazier have to lose some PAs for Ortiz get some but that's ok. For defense alone Ortiz needs to be up here.
  20. Not to get this too far off subject, but both Cenate and Rice were signability picks because even though DeMacio had all those first round picks, he did not have the budget to sign all legitimate 1st round picks. The funny part is Rice is the only one of the three to make the majors. While DeMacio gets credit for getting Brian Roberts for $650K (because there were questions about his strength pre "tried steroids once"), he really did not do well with those 7 1st round picks.
  21. I'm going to Keith Law this one (Sorry Frobby) and not give it a grade since I don't think you can grade drafts. Saying that, I liked the fact the Orioles went after better arms in this draft. This was a much needed bump of talent to the pitching. I also like the Bradford pick overall since he gives them a legitimate Mullins replacement in a few years when Mullins will get expensive.
  22. Thanks for the check. I'll make some of the changes. But that's only a 10K difference so how are you getting to 30,100?

    Coby Mayo 2023

This is a pretty good wrap up. For me, Mayo is so big and going to get bigger, I think he's going to end up too slow for RF in a few years. Personally I think he's the 1B of the future here.
  24. It's hard to get a Witt when you bonus pool is low unless you are willing to underslot your 1st pick. Once Bradford signed for slot, that was the end of the chance to sign Witt.
