  1. C'mon man... I'm pretty sure you know which one.
  2. We're going to do things a little different this year by going from one to ten instead of counting back! Who are the #1 and #2 Orioles Prospects after the 2019 season?
  3. Looking at these lists reminds me how smart and informed you guys are here at the Hangout. Lots of good lists and although ours will differ a bit, a lot of the same names will be in there. Great job so far guys!
  4. This is pretty accurate, but then again, you can say that about a lot of Capital fans as well. People like winners and at the end of the day, this team deserved to win. They came back multiple times, their big time players came through and their bullpen was nails. I wasn't rooting for them, but I'm more ambivalent then anything when it comes to them winning.
  5. Not that I think Williams is the part of a winning team here in Baltimore, but I'm a little surprised he was taken off the 40-man since I figured he had a decent shot at breaking camp next year as an extra outfielder.
  6. That's not saying much honestly. I don't judge guys against the guys we have, but rather how I think they will perform in the big leagues. If you are suggesting he may be better than what we ran out there in 2019, the only argument I'd make is he pretty similar.
  7. It means that no one thinks Ortiz is worth a 40-man roster spot. Between is health concerns, weight issues, and drop in stuff, that's not a surprise. Honestly Ortiz appeared to be a guy the Brewers knew was probably toast.
  8. I watched a start of his where he gave up like two hits in the Sally League and he couldn't command anything. He threw enough strikes with a breaking balls to get outs, but not a lot of quality strikes. I'd like to see him in relief before totally burying him though.
  9. Knight struggled to command anything and once he met hitters that just didn't swing, but actually had a plan he struggled.
  10. Last 25 games in AAA once he got his timing down. .303/.349./505./854
  11. Eads, Rogers, Ortiz and Tayler Scott all cleared waivers and were outrighted to Norfolk. No real surprisese here. No surprise they made it through waivers either.
  12. We're finalizing our official Top 30 prospects list and will start putting it out next week. I'm thinking of doing something different this year and go from 1-10 with us putting out a poll and then releasing two prospect at a time until 10. then five at a time afterwards until we reach 30. We will also be releasing a "Keep an eye on" group for guys that just missed the Top 30 or were in consideration. In the meantime, let's see you guys put out your top 30 lists in this thread. Luke and I will try not to comment too much in this thread after this so we don't give away too many hints.
  13. Nope. Honestly all it will do is tarnish a uniform that was worn with pride because the team was not a laughing stock. I would not be surprise to see a lot of transfers after this disastrous season. The DMV has been lost to Penn State and until they hire a coach with a winning background who can convince kids that Maryland is the place that can help them get to the NFL then this program will continue to be a laughing stock afterthought in the Big 10.
  14. Like who in your opinion? Carroll is a lot like the guys we brought up last year. He's an up/down depth reliever piece with good velocity that plays down due to his lack of movement and command of the pitch. I'd have zero issues with taking him off the 40-man if a better option presented itself.
  15. I'm old school in that I want players that came up with an organization to stay with that organization so I'd rather see Rendon sign with the Nats longterm. On top of it, the Orioles are not ready for this kind of signing and even when they are, I doubt they will so this with a position player.

    BA Top 100

You forgot one important thing for BA, Dunn is a former 1st rounder and Baumann is a 3rd rounder.

    BA Top 100

BA will stick with their guys until they completely wash out. They know Diaz signed for a lot of money and they will keep him on there for a long time. BA has always be infatuated with bonus money and drafted status when it comes to their top 100 and top prospects lists. I'm sure there are people out there, but haven't talk to one yet that would take Diaz over Mountcastle, but hey, to each his own. Diaz will not be over Mountcastle on our list can guarantee. BTW, our list is just being finalized. Look for something next week!
  18. There is little doubt that ownership had more to do with our lack of international presence than Duquette. Remember, the Orioles were all over the Asian market when Duquette arrived but then that fell off. Thankfully, that has appeared to change with the sons in charge and Elias on board. I'm looking forward to a couple of years from now when this regime will have been in place for 2-3 years to see what they are signing. I expect a bigger splash next year and then a huge splash the year after.

    Catching

I really think this is where it's going.
  20. Both he and Hernaiz should start next year at Delmarva with their upsides.
  21. Good points, but I'd expect you take up for your boy!
  22. That's why I think that's a very disingenuous statement by the "scout".
  23. It absolutely does create more holes which is why the strikeouts are up at every level of baseball. The thing is, the analytics approach is that the net gain of power offsets the drop in average and rise in strikeouts. I'm not sure it's a cookie cutter approach though and that's what worries me a bit. After talking with some scouts, they believe McKenna and Diaz are two guys this approach hurt. There are things to like about McKenna tools wise, but he's got a lot of holes in that swing and he's either struggling to pick up spin or he's selling out too early which leaves him vulnerable to breaking and off speed pitches.
  24. Wow, that would be a first I've heard anyone even remotely come up with that comp. Let's look at the numbers. At 23 years old Bannon (AA): .255/.345/.394/.740 in 444 PAs with 47/72 BB/K ratio Turner (AA): .289/.359/.432/.792 in in 323 PAs with 33/54 BB/K ratio Now, we have to remember that Justin Turner had an amazing and unorthodox jump in power and production at the age of 29 years old so it's tough to use his minor league comps. Bannon of course hit well with the super balls being used in AAA, but did not face a lot of the same teams much so word didn't get around on how to pitch him. Over his last 42 games at AA he slashed .214/.313/.372/.686 in 166 PAs, as teams learned they could pitch him up in the zone and induce pop ups and fly outs. Bannon does hit lefties well, but he's been pretty ordinary against righties where he slashed .258/.327/.388/.716 in 386 PAs in AA this year. Saying that, Turner has similar splits during his AA season at 23. I'd be more apt to believe that Bannon can become the pre-LA version of Turner (.260/.323/.361/.684) at the major league level more than the All-Star version.
  25. I think you will see that during our list this year.
