Middle Infield, Addison Russell and the Redemption Song
PaulFolk replied to Tony-OH's topic in Orioles Talk
Exactly, and it's why the argument that "he made a mistake" doesn't hold water. In what world does months of constant abuse constitute one mistake? Not all "mistakes" are created equal. -
This is a false equivalency. You don't have to be Cal Ripken or Brooks Robinson to, you know, not be a domestic abuser. You can't just group Russell into the category of, "Hey, nobody's perfect, you know?"
-
It isn't.

Atomic, care to tell me why you downvoted this? You asked a question and I answered it. When you say something classless like, "He doesn't seem to be the brightest dude," you're going to get pushback, which I suspect is exactly what you wanted.
-
Probably the part about you questioning Elias' intelligence.
-
I've moved them all to this separate thread for clarity.

In the case of Judge and Trout, the O's don't have any 6:35 home games against the Yankees or Angels this year, so seeing their BP shouldn't be affected.
-
This is the first I've heard that the Orioles were involved in deciding which minor league teams should be eliminated. I would've thought MLB would be in charge of that decision, not individual teams.
-
The Yankees do the same thing the Orioles are doing -- all their weeknight games before Memorial Day start at 6:35.

How long before Elias promotes the young starters at AAA?
PaulFolk replied to wildcard's topic in Orioles Talk
This is according to FanGraphs: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=0&type=1&season=2019&month=0&season1=2019&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&startdate=2019-01-01&enddate=2019-12-31&sort=11,d -
How long before Elias promotes the young starters at AAA?
PaulFolk replied to wildcard's topic in Orioles Talk
That isn't how it works. You don't automatically upgrade from the worst defensive team in the majors to an average defense just by marginally improving four positions. If they'd been only slightly below average in 2019, maybe I could buy it. But they were way, way worse than that, and they have a much further way to go. I also don't agree with the premise that all these guys are upgrades. Mancini has had a negative DRS at first base in each season of his career. Hays might be more of a corner guy. Santander is unproven. And I don't think Hanser Alberto will be the everyday second baseman, considering his .609 OPS against right-handers last year, so he might end up platooning with someone who's not a particularly good fielder. -

You do realize the Orioles were THE WORST defensive team in the majors in 2019 by Defensive Runs Saved (-105). How on earth does that team become average defensively with no changes other than adding Hays (and possibly shifting Mancini to first)? -
Meoli: Blood/Sig/Elias setting the culture prior to new coaching hires
PaulFolk replied to interloper's topic in Orioles Talk
This is gross. Don't be that guy. -
Elias is clearly more outgoing than DD if you've ever heard either of them speak. Nothing has changed that narrative.

Schoop became a part-time player because Luis Arraez came up and hit .334. He's the reason the Twins wouldn't be interested in Villar.
-
Gleyber Torres wasn't a highly ranked prospect? He was the Cubs' top prospect, and No. 26 in all of baseball (per MLB.com), when they traded him to the Yankees.
-
Playing in San Diego will do that to a hitter. It was the third-worst ballpark in the majors for hits. By OPS+, he had a better offensive season than 2013 and about equal with 2014 and 2017.

Any analogy that equates Scherzer to Ubaldo is...flawed.

Diaz does not need to be protected from the Rule 5 draft
PaulFolk replied to wildcard's topic in Orioles Talk
He probably wouldn't get drafted, but stranger things have happened. Last year the Blue Jays took 19-year-old Elvis Luciano, who hadn't pitched above rookie ball, in the Rule 5 draft. And he even held his own in the majors with a 5.35 ERA in 25 games. I could see a scenario where a rebuilding club takes a chance on drafting Fenter. -
That was Tayler Scott.

When is the time to celebrate? You don't like celebrations during the game and you don't like celebrations after the game (since you mention you hated the post-game pies). So the time to celebrate is...before the game?
