I think I would do that deal, I just believe that with Miller's controllable years and the likelihood the A's will have so many suitors bidding, that package falls short of what it will take to acquire him.
I agree that we need talent at the back end of the BP, but Miller will simply cost more than Elias or any of us want to pay. The O's will likely look for BP pieces with fewer years on their contracts, maybe even only 3-month rentals
What package do you think it would take? And what would that do to our farm system? I'm thinking the A's would want pitching in return. What pitching prospects in our system are other teams drooling over?
I don't think it would have been about laughter. Elias is very aware of player values. He would have hung up because he wouldn't want to decimate the farm system or major league club.
Look at it this way. What would it have taken to acquire Felix Bautista in May of last year if the O's were already out of playoff contention? What package of players/prospects would Elias have demanded?
Randy "Rhoads" was as elite for the metal genre as Eddie Van Halen was for rock. I actually rate his material on par or better with any mainstream rock guitarist, even EVH. Rhoads was a rare gem who died so young at 26. IMO he was only going to get better.
