  1. low and away... low and away... low and away...
  2. What was the game where Mateo was running on the pitch, and Frazier swatted the ball down the left field line, scoring a zooming Mateo to tie the game?
  3. Maybe it just seemed that way whenever he blew the ball past David Ortiz.
  4. I thought in his best seasons Matusz was throwing 96-98?
  5. But they might swap Luzardo for Hays, Cowser... Kremer?
  6. True to form, Erik Bedard looks pissed at the cameraman.
  7. Where does it say a 5% discount rate? Not being a noodge, genuinely curious. Being the nerd that I am, I used a 3% discount rate for the cash flows for the next 20 years and came up with a PV of $462 mm.
  8. Highly regarded doesn't always translate to successful teams right? As I look back there were actually some solid recruits, but some fails too. A few come to mind who were solid... Layman, Heurter, Trimble, Cowan, Morsell, Fernando, Jalen Smith, Scott More come to mind who were duds... Cleare, Roddy Peters, Diamond Stone, Justin Jackson, the Mitchell twins, James Graham, Cornish, nobody in the class of 2022
  9. I suppose that could help. It just seems as if Maryland always makes a relatively safe choice, and eventually it becomes obvious that the coach isn't capable of making the program elite. Gary Williams was amazing for a stretch, but it was clear he was done. Instead of pushing for a young superstar like a Sean Miller or Shaka Smart, they hired Turgeon, who seemed like a good guy but not a good recruiter or in game coach. Once again, instead of going for a coach who could draw top recruits, Maryland went with a safe hire in Willard. So far I can't figure out if he can actually coach, but his recruiting just isn't wowing me (based on Derick Queen being the only real recruiting effort for the class of 2004). I wonder if Greivis can coach?
  10. I really thought April 2023 Mateo was a sign of his breakout.
  11. They had a great pitching year for sure. But other than unproven starters McDermott, Povich, maybe (hopefully) Johnson... do you honestly think the O's minor league system has a strong pitching pipeline? And I'll ask the questions again. Did Elias believe there weren't any pitchers worth drafting in those rounds/drafts? Are there any top flight pitchers from those drafts that we missed out on?
  12. I reached peak McKenna and Mateo last year. I've seen all I think we're gonna see from them. Urias is more valuable IMO, but I'd be fine with handing off his role to Ortiz.
  13. My question about the "draft no pitchers" in the first 3 rounds strategy... Was it a case of Elias really thinking there weren't any pitchers worth drafting in those rounds/drafts? Are there any pitchers from those drafts that Elias passed on that we are really bummed that we didn't get?
  14. I'll bet my left pinky that he signs elsewhere. Especially when the Terps fail to make the tournament and they fail to sign anyone else in the recruiting class.
  15. If I'm reading recruiting sites correctly, Willard has put all of his recruiting hopes into landing Derick Queen for the Class of 2024. There aren't any other commits, and no potential offers of significance. All of Willard's additions would have to come from the transfer portal. IMO, Queen is not going to sign with the Terps. He'll end up at Indiana or Kansas. Very frustrating from a Terps fan perspective. Can't Maryland ever hire a coach who can build a solid recruiting base?
  16. @Sports Guy pretty much has a default setting where he disagrees with anything you post.
  17. Crazy that a team is willing to pay so much for a pitcher who can't pitch next year, and it's not guaranteed that he will be the same pitcher after surgery. I'm also wondering if there is any risk that he worsens the elbow when he is swinging the bat next year.
  18. Go back and look sir. I said they "couldn't even make it out of their first round."
  19. Those 2 things are connected. If Gunnar is really an MVP candidate year after year, it strengthens the O's chances of winning a World Series.
  20. Yeah... they couldn't even make it out of their first round. Losers. Wait....
  21. IF the O's are able to acquire a frontline starter (without giving up Kremer in the deal) AND if Tate is back to 2022 form THEN Wells and Hall move to the bullpen, which IMO becomes one of the best bullpens in the league. Edit: and imagine if Bautista comes back full bore opening day 2025 and the O's exercise Kimbrel's option.
  22. Putting a chunk of money in 2-3 year CDs has been super helpful. I work for an Investment Advisor, and we have put probably $50-100 million dollars into CDs and annuities for clients at 5% or better, very close to 6%. Very smart to take that yield risk free as part of a portfolio.
