  1. Mets announcers shoving the '69 WS in our faces 19 times every year? No thanks.
  2. I didn't like them when they were the Senators (SeGnators), either, and we kicked their asses more often than not. I lived in the DC area for about eight years and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've simply chosen the Gnats as the team I wish to hate. Call it a rivalry. Yeah, that's the ticket.
  3. I was referring to the name on the front, not the names on the back.
  4. Screw the Gnats. Please don't use them as an example of anything related to the O's.
  5. Rutschman is the only player in the system (including the big league team) who projects as being more than an everyday player. A team of everyday players won't get it done in this division unless the pitching turns out to be as good as the Rays. Besides, some of these guys will get hurt and others will just stop developing at some point. It's hard to know what we have right now. Must. Keep. Filling. Pipeline.
  6. From what I've read, arthritis was his biggest problem, not recovering from the knee surgery. If arthritis is that big a problem at his age, I can't imagine how painful his future is going to be (I've had two kinds of arthritis for 10 years, but I'm twice his age). I don't see him putting himself through the pain. Seems like he's real good with the young players. Perhaps this is a good time for him to look into transitioning to coaching, if he wants to stay in professional baseball.
  7. Trade 'em all before the tender deadline. The ones they can't trade they should non-tender.
  8. Makes us forget most of the players who took the bump for the O's this year.
  9. Players that run well and steal bases are only as valuable as their ability to score runs. IMHO, Villar's greatest achievement this year was that he scored 111 runs, leading a team that won only 53 games. Mancini finished second with 106 runs. Unfortunately, Villar hasn't scored runs consistently throughout his career. His only other big year for scoring runs was 2016, when he scored 92 runs. Last season he played in 141 games between the Brewers and the Orioles and scored only 54 runs. I don't know what team will want to pay him $8 million and hope that he repeats this year's success. Maybe someone will. Now, if Buck gets a job ...
  10. During the second half Martin was platooned with Villar at shortstop. Martin played SS vx. LHP, Villar played SS vs. RHP. Villar played 2B.vs. LHP
  11. I'm hoping Villar and Mancini are traded to build up our stock of infielder and young relief pitching prospects. That's more important to me than who is on the field next season.
  12. Maybe. They just want different things.
  13. Was that around the same time they got all the ballplayers to stop using PEDs?
  14. We can make any Dominican player any age you need him to be. Trust me.
  15. I think Villar will be traded before the tender deadline for one major league ready relief pitcher and one 17-year old Dominican.
  16. Angels fired pitching coach Doug White, who should be no stranger to the O's brain trust. From MLBTR: Could he end up somewhere in the O's organization?
  17. I'd like to see them trade Dwight Smith Jr. to the Tigers for their first round pick in the Rule 5 draft. That would let us get our two picks out of the way quickly.
  18. So what? I don't think any of them will be, either, but that doesn't mean they should be untouchable.
  19. Prospects are potential core players. Until they prove themselves in the major leagues they are not core players. But even core players can be traded if the return justifies the trade. The Rays traded several of their core players for young, mostly unheard of players before the 2018 season and everyone assumed they were tanking. Instead of tanking, they won 90 games. Any team that decides preemptively that it won't trade any of its best players is cutting themselves off from one avenue to new talent and success. That's just as bad a policy as the O's not signing international players. A team has to keep all options available.
  20. Everyone available if the return is right. There are no untouchables.
