  1. I expect Mountcastle. For a rebuilding team to have the International League Player of the Year and not call him up would squander a chance for him to get a taste of the big leagues and for fans to get a look at him. He may not play much, but he'll be interviewed and displayed and he'll get a feel for playing at this level. Even if he starts next season in Norfolk, bringing him up would be a lift for Mountcastle, the team and the fans.
  2. The Blue Jays are on track to finish with 64 wins and the #5 pick in the draft. The O's could do the same next season. I sure don't expect them to win more than 64 games next year, if that many.
  3. Wilkerson isn't warm enough to be toast.
  4. Sisco is 24. No one who can put up an OPS of .750 in the major leagues in their age 24 season is toast.
  5. It would be nice to introduce Mountcastle to the major leagues in September, even if they decide he needs more time at Norfolk to start 2020.
  6. Magic 8-ball says he could have a long career coming off the bench to pinch-hit or play C, 3B, 1B or LF. With rosters expanding to 26 next year, he could be a valuable asset for quite a few teams if he can learn to play a few more positions adequately.
  7. Norfolk's season doesn't end until the 2nd, so we might have to wait a couple of days before we see all the callups.
  8. Then all we'll need is a pitching staff that gives up 250 runs less over the course of the season. Piece of cake!
  9. I don't know how much credit Don Long should get for the success of Villar, Alberto, Severino, Santander and Nunez, but at the very least he did not get in their way.
  10. Even if it's like Irma it should only impact one game at the most. Besides, O's have a better chance if there's no power.
  11. His arthritis might keep him from being able to spend that much time on his feet every day.
  12. If he wants a minor league job, fine, but Don Long looks like a keeper to me.
  13. It's a small hurricane now, but warm waters are feeding it. Should be a large Cat 4 by the time it makes landfall on Monday morning.
  14. It's a slow moving storm expected to be a tropical storm by the time it hits Tampa Bay. If they play here (St. Pete), worst case scenario is that Tuesday's game gets postponed. Of course, this could change as the storm continues to grow.
  15. Probably hit it cause he couldn't see it.
  16. That's fine if you have infielders who can make the plays from extreme shift positions. Nunez and Alberto cannot. I'm not so sure about Martin. When they are on the field the O's should not use extreme shifts.
  17. His behavior in that video would be enough for me. Add to that, the lack of progress made by Nunez on defense. Nunez made a lot of progress last year, but that seems to have disappeared. The throwing program they put him on hurt him more than helped him. I also don't like the positioning of infielders, but I realize it is probably dictated by analytics. Just my opinion, but I think that a team with bad infielders should put them in more traditional positions, as they may be more likely to make the plays from positions they are used to covering. Our guys seem to make a lot of mistakes when they are in extreme shifts. Just put them where they are most likely to be successful and hope the ball gets hit in their vicinity.
  18. I don't expect either of them to be on the team next year, so, no big deal.
  19. I think he's asking which O's minor leaguers will be eligible for the Rule 5 draft if they are not put on the 40-man roster after the season ends.
  20. And the interviews - those mindless, never-ending interviews - for sure.
  21. Here's my list. Position players Hays (He's 24 with 1,300 minor league AB. He may end up being a #7 hitter in the lineup, but it's time.) Mountcastle (Let him play some games and get the feel for what MLB life is like. Give him a few more months at Norfolk next season.) Wynns Smith (Bring him up, but just use him as an occasional DH or PH) Trumbo (For his goodbye lap, if he's healthy enough) Pitchers - The five best pitchers who are already on the 40-man roster.
  22. I'm not suggesting that I think Davis should walk away from the money, but imagine being 33 years old, having more money than 99.9% of people in the world, and sticking with a job you are no longer capable of doing well that keeps you away from your wife and young kids most of the year - just for more money. He must be convinced that he is going to get better or that they will cut him and pay him. What else could be going through his head?
  23. A player on the 40-man roster cannot be traded. Period. Only players on minor league contracts can be traded.
  24. Give him another spring training to prove he is worthless and then cut him.
