  1. Mid-April 2021 gets him through his age 29 season. Even if we aren't super competitive in 2021, if he is ready I would rather have him learning/adjusting to the big league game and pitchers over having him for his age 30 season.
  2. Press conference is at 2. Presumably we will find out which affiliate he will be assigned to.
  3. So should this be the Jack Zoellner appreciation thread or should we create a separate thread to celebrate his many contributions to the team?
  4. I agree with Frobby here. My only issue was that you declared it a minimum of two weeks based on a tweet that he grabbed his leg. While you may yet be correct, I don't think entirely speculative armchair diagnoses like that raise the level of discourse on the board.
  5. Either way, the resulting conclusion is the same. Maryland doesn't have a track record of being a very good baseball school and thus it is weird for a top high school baseball player to choose to attend Maryland. He is not from the area, I am just curious why he chose Maryland.
  6. But why is he going to Maryland if he is such a great player?!? I am super flummoxed with the Zmarzlak situation. Maryland hasn't produced a first round draft pick since 2002 and has produced a total of 3 5+ WAR players ever (Eric Milton, Tom Bradley, and Brett Cecil), with Brandon Lowe likely to be fourth.
  7. I agree that he will get more than Witt. I was surprised Witt signed for that much, but at least he had college as leverage. Ultimately it isn't a big deal and I am all for players getting as much as they can as the draft system is punitive to players and artificially holds down signing bonuses, although that doesn't bother me nearly as much as the failure to pay minor leaguers a living wage. I just find it strange that normal rules of negotiation don't apply.
  8. I don't really understand this. Cole's signing was under the previous CBA. Under the draft slotting system, nobody has signed for more than Casey Mize's $7.5 Million last year. Slot on 1-1 is up about $320K since last year, but $8M should not be in play, Adley doesn't have any leverage.
  9. Take that hateful trash elsewhere.
  10. The merry-go-round continues. They are taking Fry and Phillips' spots, both were optioned after last night's game.
  11. Josue Cruz picked up 4 walks today. He is 18 and playing in the DSL for the second time and already has more walks (18) in his first 16 games than he accrued last season (13) in 51 games. His K/BB ratio this season is 19/18 compared to 93/13 last season. His overall line this year is a solid .294/.478/.490. Last season he played every game in the outfield, this year all but one game has been at first base.
  12. I doubt it, if it continues to be in three inning spurts. Few pitchers are ever in the top 100 that are already relievers .
  13. I'm not. He was not a reach and had some late first round buzz. Fangraphs had him #32 ahead of Gunnar.
  14. How are two cities going to get two stadiums funded for less than a full season's worth of games? It doesn't make sense.
  15. Or he just tweaked something. Get out of here with this minimum of two weeks stuff.
  16. Only 5 teams have more top-100 players than the Orioles, although all 4 are in the bottom half.
  17. Thanks for the diagnosis, doctor.
  18. Yeah $10K is the standard and the extra $5K means a lot more to one side than the other. Unless something came up on the physical, I'm not a fan of squeezing an extra $5K out of a player who will in all likelihood never make even $2,000 a month playing baseball.
  19. Presumably our 10th round senior Jordan Cannon signed for a similar amount, but the figure has not yet been reported.
