  1. Elias made the point that Flaherty should benefit from the quality of our defense and catchers. Seems like almost every pitcher that comes here shaves half a run off his ERA.
  2. His math doesn't work. But demoting McKenna, cutting Mateo, optioning Cowser and promoting Ortiz does work. That's what I'd like to see. I love Cowser, but get him 3 weeks of playing time at Norfolk and if he gets back to hitting well, bring him back up when rosters expand.
  3. Love this post. To add on, what kind of culture do the O's want? One where there is accountability for poor performance and merit based promotion for outstanding performance? I've never known a competitive player in team sports who wanted any other culture.
  4. This thread isn't about last nights loss. It's about the fact we have a guy posting a sub .600 OPS in the majors who is routinely making defensive and baserunning mistakes even though he's ostensibly here for his glove / legs AND the fact we have a player at AAA with a +glove hitting .358 with a near 1.000 OPS who is already on the 40 man who could replace him. Mateo's lack of performance and Ortiz going 5 - 8 with two 2bs last night are just the latest reminders that we may have a better option available to us.
  5. I think fielding the best possible team during a pennant race is a very good reason to make a move at this point...
  6. Elias hasn't been afraid to make some atypical moves - Baker being demoted is the latest. Frankly with Ortiz hitting .350 at AAA, I'd be shocked if he doesn't make a move.
  7. Put Mateo thru waivers and send him back to AAA to get everyday playing time and see if he can get some semblance of his defensive game back. If he gets claimed, so be it. Bring up Ortiz and start him. He can't be worse defensively than Mateo has been recently and he will certainly be an upgrade offensively.
  8. Excitement building... What's the chance McDermott is in consideration for the rotation next season if he keeps this up? Also, how close is McD to cracking the Top 100?
  9. The Blue Jays should have offered the farm to trade for Mountcastle. He'd be an MVP candidate playing half his games in Rogers.
  10. Maybe he's gun shy from having a .346 babip and a bad defense behind him so he's trying to pitch away from contact?
  11. I hear you, but Wells was a dominant guy out of the pen before he moved to starter. I don't know if Kremer has ever had that kind of success from the pen.
  12. He apparently has really good competitive makeup. He could benefit from the O's improved defense (Cards were #28 in DRS) and change of scenery.
  13. And we didn't mortgage the future for a questionable return or shake up the clubhouse to much. We're the #1 team in the AL, we got better at the trade deadline and maintained the top farm system in the game. Future. Bright. Shades.
  14. I am happy with Flaherty and Fuji for what we traded. I think there are a lot of others here who are as well.
  15. Flaherty apparently has a huge curveball that has a 43% swing and miss rate. I'd love it if he has an Otter class curve.
  16. I was just at the Cardinals message board. They are pissed they got "nothing" for Flaherty. Not sure who is dancing in the streets.
  17. Rom was a candidate for DFA this year. Showalter is 19 and years away from helping the team. I don't think Elias traded away a pitcher that would likely help the club in the next 4 - 5 years.
  18. I don't know what you mean, hopes? Wells is certainly going to be in the pen for the O's down the stretch. Hyde just said that's the plan on the pregame show.
