  1. Every starter we have in the majors at the moment is better than Hall. I wish it weren’t the case, but his command is just too spotty at the moment and the stuff is not overwhelming. This sort of reminds me of when Bundy came up and pitched against the Red Sox. The stuff just wasn’t as good as we were expecting. Turns out he was likely hurt at least a bit. Hope that isn’t the case with Hall
  2. Yep, stuff isn’t any better than Bradish’s
  3. Just proved me wrong in 2nd. Hope he continue to
  4. This is how he is in the minors. Poor command. Everything hard is elevated. He isn’t getting any swings and misses though. Moreover, the velocity isn’t what we have seen in minors. Hopefully he settles down but this is what I have been saying would be his issue.
  5. Adley should be catching him. I know it’s day after night, but it’s 4:00. Let Chirinos catch tomorrow.
  6. I understand what you are saying but Ortiz walks and Mateo doesn’t, that limits Mateo’s upside
  7. You have to remember that Eutaw Street is bout 20 feet above field level. You have to hit the ball further than you would think to hit the warehouse. O’Neil Cruz hit it during batting practice. That really isn’t different than a home run derby.
  8. I haven’t seen Ortiz play. Obviously, I have seen this play but for those that have seen Ortiz is he a Mateo-level fielder? I know the hitting upside is higher.
  9. This makes the most sense. Starters have been good and Wells will be back. Need help keeping the bullpen fresh. If he could be a lefty throwing 100 coming out of the bullpen, that could be helpful

    Jorge Mateo

I know word gets around about what teams are doing, but sometimes I wish the Orioles coaches would be a bit more circumspect.
  11. Mateo and Mullins have been caught stealing a lot as of late, especially Mateo. I almost wonder if Mateo is tipping when he is going. Has anyone seen anything?
  12. They clearly value Odor’s defense. The stats we have say it isn’t good, but surely the Orioles have their own stats and Vavra would be playing second more if Odor wasn’t good in the field. So, effectively the called up Vavra over Stowers. Moreover, such eJul1St the team has one of the best records in baseball. Hard to argue Stowers should be up.
  13. Because you figure you can call up Hall if you need help and know Wells will be back.
  14. Because the bullpen is wearing thin and there isn’t another logical guy to promote that might be good in high leverage situations or allow a starter to move to bullpen in high leverage situations. Who is the alternative?
  15. Nice swing. Seems to stay within himself.
  16. Does anyone know how long his contract is?
  17. Hays doesn't wear batting gloves. I wonder if that has some effect.
  18. These arguments are all great, but the Orioles are 23-10 since July 1. It is hard to argue with the results.
  19. Lyles has been integral to this teams success this year. His innings and ability to stay healthy have allowed the bullpen to stay reasonably well-rested. He has gone 5+ innings in 19 of his 23 starts. In 2 of the others, he went 4+ innings. One time he didn't get out of the 3rd inning. There is value for a bullpen to this consistency. Guys getting blown-up in the first can really kill a bullpen. If he goes, the Orioles need a similar style guy (innings and health) next year. It's clear that Sig has a way to value this in his model and they prioritized signing Lyles early.
  20. Fabian reportedly struggles with velocity at the top of the zone. I found this interesting from Meoli today re: Stowers, a player that I have seen Fabian comped with as a hitter. Stowers’ swinging strike rate this year is 14.6%, according to FanGraphs, down slightly from his 15.9% last season, but his overall strikeout rate has dropped from 32.3% to 24.2%. Gibbons said Stowers embraces the challenging mixed batting practice the Orioles’ prospects get every day, and spent the winter working on a swing change that he’s carried through this season and seen benefits from. “One specific thing he’s worked on is some lead-arm work, to try to flatten out that swing at the top of the zone, because that’s where the whiff was a lot — it was velocity at the top of the zone,” Gibbons said. “He’s worked on a lot of lead-arm work to really flatten out his swing at the top, and really just him putting in the work and effort every single day.” https://jonmeoli.substack.com/p/what-are-the-orioles-top-hitting?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email Perhaps the Orioles were so into Fabian because they think they can fix hitters with this profile.
  21. Elias got some filthy guys
  22. Buck would have been keeping the starters in longer to teach them to overcome adversity. We also would likely be 10 games out of the wildcard because of that. And I loved Buck and hope he wins with the Mets
  23. This is a fair critique, especially some of his actions in the beginning of his tenure. But he brought McPhail in who stabilized things and then decided to step away. Maybe that was Angelos driving him crazy, can’t say. He then had a nice run with DD until they held on too long so he could win before he died. He was willing to put money in to win. Maybe not as much as some owners, but more than others. Definitely not the best owner, but also not the worst.
  24. Angelos was never a horrible owner. He made some mistakes but tried to spend. It’s quite obvious the team will be sold after he passes, though I think John would love to keep the team. The problem is if he does, the Orioles would be too poor to run very effectively. The worry is that a really rich guy buys the Nationals and pledges to spend tons and the Orioles look more valuable moved elsewhere.
