  1. Glad to see that Hodo just got his first professional hit on Monday, going 1-3 and playing center field.
  2. Oh, there will be. There will be. 0-4 with 4 strikeouts? There's always someone to complain about something...
  3. Again, it wasn't just the "delay Stowers" explanation. If you read through the entire post, there were 4-5 other good explanations as well. I'm sure all these factored into the decision, including player development. In the end, I'm sure they thought Phillips could help the team, and when that experiment didn't work, they moved on to Stowers. I have no problem with any of this, even though I would like to have seen Stowers sooner. Phillips is gone. Stowers is here. I don't see the need to complain. Unfortunately, Stowers went 0-4 today. I wonder how many are going to complain about him being called up to soon!
  4. While I didn't like the Phillips signing, I wasn't apposed, either. I get it. I think it was for a number of factors already mentioned- he filled some needs at the time. Why didn't they bring up Stowers instead? Probably because of player development. Elias has repeatedly said he wants our prospects to get enough reps and at bats in the minors, including AAA, before bringing them up so that when they're called up, they're ready to contribute. That's probably why Stowers and Hall didn't stick the first time around. I'm sure they wanted Stowers in the lineup much sooner, but this is what development looks like. My hope is that Stowers is now ready, to not only stick, but contribute and be the spark that pushes us into the playoffs (along with a couple more prospects). Phillips served a purpose, but that's behind us now, and the future has arrived. No reason to keep looking back.
  5. Fun thread. Very enjoyable. I was a Junior in college and kept track of the O's season by going to the library every day and reading the Baltimore Sun. Man, I still love that team! And Gregg Olson. I thought for sure we'd go from Worst to First. What a fun season with so many beloved players and memories. Needless to say, that ending though... heartbreaking... Funny thing, one of my best friends in college was a Blue Jays fan. So annoying. But I've never known any other Blue Jays fan since.
  6. I kinda liked Diplan and am sorry to see him go. I thought he was a good pitcher to have in case of an emergency. But letting Hartman go does make sense. I'm hoping this means many of our newly acquired players are forcing these roster changes and strengthening the system even further!
  7. I guess I'm one of those who needs to get their head checked. I voted "I'm okay with it" because I think it's too early to tell. I like what Elias is trying to accomplish and think both pitchers have a chance to be something special, but I don't think we'll see either one of them until 2024 at the earliest. But they'll probably go through some growing pains and struggle, going up-and-down to the minors until they're fully ready by 2026 or 2027. But, then again, neither could make the Oriole's roster, or maybe we'll trade one or both of them away... who knows... too soon to tell.
  8. I'm glad Diaz is getting a shot. Not sure how much playing time he'll get, but at least he's getting an opportunity and we're not giving up on him and letting some other team benefit. He's only 25, so while he hasn't lived up to expectations, I hope he gets plenty of playing time to at least draw some interest from other teams. Maybe he can become a good trade piece, and that won't happen unless he gets a chance. If he makes a splash, maybe we can include him in a trade for some starting pitching. Then again, maybe he'll falter and will be a bust. But at least give him a chance and see what happens. Our other OF prospects will get their chance.
  9. Good trade. I like the strategy. Elias is thinking outside the box, and that's what we need to compete in this division. It's a smart gamble and worth while.
  10. Very sad to see Mancini go, even though we saw it coming and knew it was bound to happen. I enjoyed watching him come up through the system, make a name for himself in Baltimore, overcome adversity, make a splash in the All-Star home run contest, and play his heart out. He is appreciated, and then some. All the best Trey!!!
  11. I haven't been following the Rookie of the Year race, but hope Adley is in contention. Not expecting him to win it, but would be nice to see him get some votes.
  12. I noticed they were doing better, but didn't realize they were doing THAT much better! I like what Bencosme is doing. Hope they keep it up.
  13. I hope articles like this don't open the eyes of anyone in the National's front office... shhhhhhhh
  14. I think this is the same guy we drafted #23 in the 2018 draft, and now he's jumped up to #12 in this year's draft. Cool. Would love to see this guy pan out!
  15. I'm okay with this pick, but really, really wish Elias had found a high, upside pitcher here. We have some great pitching prospects in our system, but we need a lot more. Hope this guy flies through our system and isn't a disappointment like Cadyn Grenier.
  16. I was pleasantly surprised at this pick. I expected either Druw Jones or Termarr Johnson, but I think this was the right pick. If the O's were worried about signing Jones, they're not going to save any money on this pick, which is why I was a bit surprised, but I love that we now have a 5-tool shortstop in our system!
  17. True, but it probably won't sit well with them either.
  18. Absolutely! He deserves a shot, and it's about time he has some quality talent at hand.
  19. Yup, I was wondering the same. Sad to see him getting roughed up routinely.
  20. That's nice to know where we stand, but I'd still like to see starters going longer on every professional level- Majors and Minors. There was an article I read recently (can't remember where), and it suggested there was no statistical difference in injuries when pitchers threw few pitches or a lot of pitches in a game. If that's true, and further studies bear that out, then maybe we'll eventually see starters throwing complete games again.
  21. Cody Roberts has never been a true prospect, but I like him as an underdog and would love to see him get a shot. He's actually putting up decent numbers this year, and if he continues to do so, I think he'd be a good September call-up. His career minor league numbers aren't impressive, but decent. I don't expect him to steal any bases, but if he calls a good game and plays good defense, he could be a worthy backup for a time. AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB AVG 616 61 156 30 1 11 82 65 181 0 253
  22. Looked real good tonight with three hits, including two doubles, and three RBI. He was solid defensively at short. Loved watching him play.
