Way too early to have any meaningful thoughts. I didn’t expect the pitching to be great but I also didn’t see this defense being this pathetic.

Disagree. Ryan McKenna won’t ever be looked at in the same way again. Also, with less games against the division this year, the head to head matchups in the division matter a little more.

It’s ok to be concerned about both. Quite frankly, I don’t know how anyone couldn’t be after the first two games. That said, I think the outfield defense is likely to be corrected rather than the pitching coming around.

This thread doesn’t get made if McKenna catches that fly ball yesterday. It’s my understanding that by the time these guys reach the majors, they’re adept at such simple things and the coaches exist for “fine tuning” and advanced concepts. I don’t know what coaching could have prevented that error yesterday. IMO, it sits squarely on McKenna’s shoulders for looking away at the last second and not watching the ball all the way in. FWIW, I always thought “two hands” was overrated. Ball hits the heel of your glove and pops out, it’s probably not gonna matter if you had your free hand up there or not.

Losses count no matter what time of the season they happened in. Last years team had all the time in the world to make up for a bad April. If they had played well in April, they would have made the playoffs. It's that simple.

This is a good point but again, it shouldn't have come to that. Hays had a great day at the plate but that ground rule double was also inexcusable.

Yes, there are 160 games left. You're not wrong there. But games in late September don't count for more. Yes, if we miss a playoff berth by one game, I will gamble that Ryan McKenna dropping a flyball a Little Leaguer could have caught will probably be the easiest play amongst the games we'll blow this year. It doesn't matter that it happened in April.
