  1. Honestly, I'd be happier if they'd literally stood pat and not signed Gibson and Frazier this offseason. I'm alright with Givens and McCann but the other two signings are just dumb. I'd rather have them not spent that money than spend it how they did. It's just dumb.
  2. I agree with that, totally. 100%. But for an organization that seems way more comfortable with low payrolls. I can easily see (and I bet you can, too) that 18 million to Gibson and Frazier is probably akin to that feeling you had when you were a kid and you started wading towards the deep end of the pool. And when your feet weren't touching the bottom and you had to tread water to keep your head above the surface, that little panic feeling? I'm assuming that's on par for whoever's in the Warehouse and controlling the budget. IMO, it's not so much the money, it's the fact that these are one year deals. For whatever reason, this team is petrified of a multi-year deal. I get it, 5 years for a guy might be a bit much but 2, 3? C'mon, this is absurd. If 18 million shouldn't prohibit this team from spending more money this year, it shouldn't prohibit this team from spending more next year.
  3. To an earlier point, I'm assuming they have to think that there's a degenerative condition with that ankle. As SG pointed out, he's not missed time with it at the ML level. But if that's the hold-up, I can't figure any other reason two teams would back out of deals for something that happened to him in 2014.
  4. You're engaging with me, hombre. You can't tell me that, ironic or not, you're surprised he's failed two physicals. I found a photo of his grandfather, no wonder he's this brittle. Bad genes.
  5. One surprise 83 win season and this board got real cocky, real fast. As much as a surprise 83 win season was unexpected last year, a surprise 72 win season is certainly also a possibility. Let's not pretend that there are disappointing teams each year in the MLB and that we could be one of them. While I like to think we'll be 83 wins or higher, it wouldn't surprise me if we also won 72.
  6. @wildcardplease feel free to update that title at any time.
  7. I'm not sure if that's the win you think it is. Just goes to show there's more wrong with him than what his previous injury history has entailed. But you're also engaging in a bit of semantics here, saying that it's not had to do with any injury he's had in the majors and nothing he's missed time for in the majors. If you're reading what I'm reading, it's a right ankle injury that he had in the minors. That said, we can agree that the hold-up surrounds a right ankle injury he suffered as a professional baseball player.
  8. Posted it in the MLB thread, but it's shocking that someone who's spent half his career on the IL can't pass two physicals. Big time pass.
  9. I’m tired of the constant debate on here about if it’s Elias who’s cheap or if it’s whatever Angelos is in charge that’s cheap. The people in the “Elias is cheap” camp seem to think that all he cares about is his farm system rankings and that’s it. Or they want to believe that he’s not being allowed to spend what we’d all like him to spend. The people who are in the “Angelos is cheap” camp love to beat a dead horse and are too lazy to think otherwise. Beating up on an Angelos has become a Baltimore pastime. All of this is to say that it doesn’t matter who’s cheap; Elias, the Angelos Bros, one, the other, both…it doesn’t matter. The organization is cheap. They could have done this deal. They could have done the Bassitt deal. This is pathetic.
  10. “It’s only December 27th!” I didn’t want Eovaldi but after missing out on…well, everyone else, I’d have been mildly pleased if they signed him. This off-season is a disaster.
  11. Man, we should be here bagging on Odor and focusing on how we're going to be 9 games better without him on the team and here you guys are worrying about catching.
  12. Completely shocking that a guy who has spent half his career on the DL is having an issue with a physical.
  13. It is a double standard, but it is what it is. I'm not convinced that Bauer can't do it without spider tack or some extra help though. We'll see. But I'd rather not have him. Frobby's retired, so does he count? I dunno. Maybe. I wasn't aware you were a personal injury attorney. How many billboards do you have? (Thems just jokes)
  14. Is this the thread where all the wannabe legal experts chime in? Awesome. I don't think he's good enough for the media headache. He'd have to be, like, prime Kershaw for me to want to give him an opportunity.
  15. Maybe marginally better than last year. It’s obvious that Elias is expecting any big boost in wins to come from G-Rod, Adley, Gunnar and other young players developed in the system.
  16. You’re riding shotgun with me to Interloper’s place. I’ll see you at dawn.
  17. I’m also gonna order you a Hosmer jersey.
  18. Already did that like 4 years ago when I was bored on vacation. Would be good to do it again, just to keep him on his toes.
  19. @interloper I’m going to light a paper bag of dog poop, leave it on your doorstep, ring the doorbell and run away.
  20. The comment about playing time is concerning a little bit. Others in this thread have said it, but it’s true. 80 games doesn’t mean 80 starts. So we’ll see. While Elias has had a terrible offseason so far, I don’t believe he’s stupid enough to keep Adley starting less than 120 games at catcher. McCann should catch and that’s it unless he comes around with his hitting and can DH when Mountcastle goes into his terrible slump.
  21. After all the moves the Mets have made this off-season I bet McCann is piiiiiissed. Decent move for us. I’m also really glad we’re able to bail Cohen out and give him some salary relief.
