  1. You need so much more context than to shake your head at a deal that you think the Orioles should have beaten. No report that the Orioles were also interested. No report of what would have been asked for out of the Os farm. A headscratcher is like "Orioles stand firm at trade deadline despite 3rd best record."
  2. "So it starts" or whatever that thread is? Maybe unneccisarily reactive or impetuous are more to your liking?
  3. This. For the most part only the games 10-20 best hitters stay consistent over the course of the year, and even then the best have slumps. Yet, there seems to be some desire for a roster where every player meets that criteria and the fact is that's just not how it happens. Frobby hit it on the head here that short (1 month) slumps are expected. Executives, coaches, they already know that and maybe they ramp back a little on starts but they always understand you have to get guys ABs or they never get out of that slump. And you hope that the cycles among your players don't sync up and lead to long term losing streaks - which they haven't here - but see Pittsburgh. If a slump persists then maybe there's a change, or a roster shake up (again see PGH calling up Henry Davis). But as long as the Orioles are maintaining a winning record I see no need to panic and make changes because you think the grass may be greener with a prospect who has never seen MLB pitching.
  4. 1. If you make blanket statements about "people on the site" you shouldn't be replying to a specific post. 2. It is not cognitive dissonance to say in the offseason that a player should be traded and then see their effect in the first hals of the season and say they shouldnt. There is literally additional data in which to revise your outlook. If you are GM are you trading an 850 OPS guy banking on his regression when you are clearly in the playoff race. If so you would be the first GM ever to do so. If Hays does regress, maybe you replace him with Cowser, but you don't trade him banking on Cowser replacing him. And yes, I think it's possible Cowser doesn't put up 1 WAR in his first say 200 ABs.
  5. I think you should bring them up this year but I don't think you can "replace bats". Injury is on thing, but if you say trade Hays or Santander because you think Cowser can come up and provide comparable production, that's asanine. If they have any sort of learning curve you have cut off the ability to go back to the guys who had proven production. Now this applies less so in the Westburg case where I think you can argue he could immediately replace Mateo. That said, you need to see if you can any value for Mateo (I think they can) but teams aren't ready to deal yet.
  6. Is Cowser or Westburg one of "the bats to replace them"? There are a million examples of why these prospects shouldn't be counted on for productive MLB ABs yet. Gunnar may be object lesson #1. Jared Kelenic, Jo Adell, Jordan Walker also come to mind.
  7. It will be interesting to see what both Wells and Gibson do over the next 2-3 weeks. Gibsons ERA is a little high but a guy with 9 or 10 wins will get consideration no matter what. Wells is currently leading the league in WHIP. Cano and Bautista certainly deserve it right now.
  8. I work for the air quality agency in CT. MLB and the minors have a rule that they cancel the game if the PM rating is 200 or worse. The Yard Goats (Hartford AA) called us Tuesday to ask about it. You can either look up a local AQI page or use the Purple Air website to get a sense of whether the game will be cancelled. https://map.purpleair.com/1/mAQI/a10/p604800/cC0#6.2/39.241/-76.968 Given that map there's a chance they play today and the air quality is improving over the weekend.
  9. Even great teams get boat raced occasionally. Good teams get routed. Bad teams get a laugher. Terrible teams win big. Welcome to a 162 game season.
  10. I have to think that some of the potential over usage of bullpen pitchers is because Elias told him something to the effect of "We probably won't trade for an elite starting pitcher but I can and will restock the bullpen." I could see the team operating with that strategy.
  11. Kremer, Bradish, Gibson... You need one more for the playoffs. Use Wells and Grayson as long men. That said, May is way too early to be planning that.
  12. Cold water already? Best pitcher in the game today - Gerritt Cole, go look at 2016 and 2017...and give Rodriguez time to adjust.
  13. What is the sample size requirement for stats of this nature to normalize? You are going to compare last year's stats, a full season, with April this year (the coldest month of baseball)? What player isn't a little slower in April, would love to see some comparisons. I realize we are nearing the end of April and Orioles look decent so we want to see the best product on the field, but I assure you that is not accomplished by reacting to non-normalized stats. We all know the Calendar has to hit at least May 1 for any GM to start considering wholesale changes.
  14. Since I met my (now) wife 20 years ago I have been an Orioles/Pirates fan, and I dont have to tell you how difficult that has been. The start of this season has been amazing but now both franchises need owners who will invest in the team long term and make for sustained success.
  15. You know what's nice is the balanced schedule means the Orioles aren't bouncing back to the AL BEast every other series.
  16. Mark "Sunflower Seed" Reynolds had a career that lasted probably a season or two too long because he could see a lot of pitches. It's not really a new concept and not really the be all, end all we thought it was years ago. Still not a bad thing.
  17. It has a lot to do with rotation of the lower body to the upper body. If you are falling off your lower body is rotating more. Just think about it logically, the more you rotate the lower body (an falling off does this) the more the upper body lags and the more strain is put on the shoulder. Here are some sources talking about it: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3445126/ https://danblewett.com/baseball-how-to-pitch-pitching-mechanics-guide/ https://rocklandpeakperformance.com/what-are-most-common-pitching-mechanics-issues/ Not all pitchers fall off hardly. One of the links above talks about it. If you looks at many of the healthier pitchers around the game drop and drive and don't fall off. Look, arm injuries are tough, and there is no concensus as to what causes them. People much smarter than me do significant scientific studies on it. In fact, for most pitchers injuries and correct mechanics are completely unique to them. I dont know about Bright. It's just an observation that he has a significant fall off and it will be interesting to see if that effects his development. Among other things it can lead to decreased accuracy.
  18. Don't know Bright and hadn't seen much until I saw a highlight about the 10K outing. On first watch I would be a little worried about future significant shoulder problems given how much he falls off to first. There's a litany of former minor and major leaguers will a well documented history of injuries with that particular follow through.
  19. I know a lot of people are critical of not keeping Wells in for the 9th, but I can see the other side of the argument too. Bautista had a bad series in Boston, and you have an opportunity in this game to bring him in against a team that looks lost at the plate, in a warmer environment than Boston, to get that whole last series out of his mind. He can grip his splitter with feeling. He can protect a lead and get that momentum of a dominate 9th inning...which he did.
  20. Got to admit all I have seen was his last AB vs. Texas with Ian Kennedy pitching but Stowers looked completely lost. Fanned at multiple pitches that weren't even close to the strike zone.
  21. Just seeing the status of the game. Was Bradish removed due to injury?
  22. He also had a terrible wrist injury he tried to play through. He's better than those numbers. But yeah, the Orioles need to recognize a hot streak when they see one.
  23. Honestly this was such a trash first weekend of the season. The pitching sucked at basically every level of the major league team, the defense was terrible, and we lost 2-3 to a terrible Boston team. Not to mention John Angelos sign posting that Adley is gone in a few years. The Orioles did a great freaking job killing any enthusiasm I had for the season. And that's one for the overreaction thread.
