I draw blanks, too. But if I’m on my phone, I leave it open and will come back to it later. Or if it’s on my laptop I leave a tab open and come back to it later.

Also what works for me is thinking about baseball cards for some reason.

Do we still have the taken out of context thread?

I got my personal best of 66 today. The Cubs/Twins was the most difficult for me.

  2. I misread one of today’s squares that was MVP and ROY. I thought it meant same year, which I’m not sure has happened. I guessed the guy who led the league in homers and later testified to Congress during the steroid hearings, but he didn’t win MVP. There are obvious answers for guys who won ROY and MVP later.

It's FINALLY happening!  Will be interesting to see what Harris and his group can do to win the fans back and get a new stadium built.  It's hilarious that fans are planning a victory parade.

Instead of hilarious, I would say cathartic. Incredible day. Never thought it would leave the Snyder family in my lifetime. Also glad it’s Harris and co and not Bezos. Harris bought beers for everyone at both parties.

The Wednesday puzzle has two very easy non-team categories, so there were only 4 team/team squares, and I got my lowest score ever, 52.

      Reveal hidden contents
    Columns:   Blue Jays, A's, All-Star
    • Rays Row:  Steve Pearce 3%, Carlos Pena 12%, Wander Franco 5%
    • Twins Row:  Jack Morris 5%, Brent Rooker 5%, Kirby Puckett 10%
    • 100 RBI row:  Jesse Barfield 0.8%, Jose Canseco 10%, Eddie Murray 0.2%

I had my best score of 55. Our bottom row was almost the same, but I took the Blue Jays teammate from that team which was 3%.

    I used two HOFers.

My All Star column added up to 3.5%.

He's extremely aggressive and is going to look bad on occasion but man it's fun to watch.

Fun fact, James Wood was clocked from home to first during the futures game at a faster speed than De La Cruz. He’s a 6’7 CF.

I was in the process of posting the same video.

That steal of home is something.

Two days ago he had the hardest throw from the infield for the season.

Such a smart play. Third baseman shifted way over, doesn’t draw a throw. You see him glance over the third baseman doesn’t move so he he can take a big walking lead and then strike when the pitcher isn’t ready.

You must’ve been the only person to use Rayford.  A handful of people used Richard because he was at 0.2%.

My score was 272 today.  Using Lindor really hurt me.  I wanted to use Amed Rosario but of course I couldn’t think of his name until after I gave in and used Lindor.  And I couldn’t remember if Andres Gimenez had ever debuted as a Met.  I see now that he did.

I used Brady Anderson for Orioles/Cleveland.

I did Thome and he was the most. I would have guessed the most would have been Belle or Murray.

    Derrick Lee was only 2%.

  8. They may be some games back in the wildcard. But when you have guys like Abrams, Gore, Wood, Hassell, and Susana in the pipeline, your future looks great.  Oh wait.

I have to say, this game is definitely showing me that my memory is getting rusty.  On Wednesday, there was a square for a player who’d played for both the Marlins and the Cubs.  I knew there was such a guy, I could picture him in my head, a very good offensive and defensive 1B.   And, I remembered that the O’s had signed him to a one year deal the same year they signed Vlad, and then dumped him at the trade deadline.  But even with that, I couldn’t remember the guy’s name.  So I had a look at the 2011 Orioles on BB-ref and saw that Derrek Lee was the guy I was thinking of.

Now I ask you, was it cheating for me to look that up?  I didn’t do anything to verify that he’d played for the Marlins and the Cubs, I just got his name.

Anyway, I’m having a lot of episodes like that where I can picture a guy and remember obscure details about his career but am drawing a blank on his name.

    It’s not just you. Haha.

I’ve found that in January I could probably only name 30-35 guys on the roster and maybe 25 of the top 30 prospects. Then it comes back to me. Same with football rosters in the summer.

  10. Yes, it’s now part of my morning routine. I typically get seven or eight, but haven’t hit on all nine yet.

I try to get as obscure as possible.

I don’t see the rarity score. I play on mobile. Maybe that’s why?

EDIT: Nevermind. I see the rarity score now.

They also had a broadcast partner that stopped paying them.

Doesn't deter from the fact that Soto's numbers back up to his career average.

Or that I find it distasteful when folks when folks revel in opposing players struggling.

Slugging % and line drive % are still way down.

He’s still a great player and will continue to be a great hitter. Doesn’t offer much in the field.

Does he get $400M+ in FA?  I’m not so sure.

Is there actually a draft lottery for this upcoming draft?

    Pittsburgh jumped to number one.

I’m a little confused about some of the nuances. I understand that the Nationals can’t pick higher than 10 this year because they will pick in the top 6 two years in a row. But that rule doesn’t apply for all teams. I believe Pittsburgh (if they fall off from their hot April) could still get the number 1 three years in a row.
