  1. I voted yes for Hays and no for Mountcastle.  $24M committed to Hays over six years is little risk.  I looked at how Kingery’s salary is distributed.  He’s getting 1, 1.5, and 1.75 in his first three years.  So that’s a little bit more than $2M more than he would have received if he didn’t do the deal.  With Hays I wouldn’t give him 4 per year, but a little bit more than Kingery.  Maybe something like 1, 2, 3.5.

If you put more upfront, he could make a very attractive trade piece as he’ll have less money owed to him in the latter years.  Also, these types of deals are attractive to teams that are bumping up against the luxury tax threshold.

The wrench in this strategy is that the new CBA could totally blow up the economics.  Someone like Mountcastle may end up expecting more than 560k, or whatever it is, in year two and three anyway.

Curious as to how these two compare as prospects to Arietta et. al when when they were of similar ages/levels. I was not following our minor league system closely back then.

In other words, is this the highest upside (and I stress upside) PAIR of starters we’ve had in a long, long time?

    Matt Riley?

Cain?  He’d be way down my list.   Off the top of my head I’d replace him with McCutchen, but there may be others to consider.

I was having trouble with OF after Trout.  Cain’s rWAR is close to McCutchen’s while McCutchen really tapered off in the last half of the decade.

I was thinking about Harper, but he didn’t play in 2010-11 and had two poor years even though he had one great year.

    I like your pitching suggestion.

  4. Going off the top of my head, I’d go with:

    1B Cabrera

    2B Cano

    3B Beltre

    SS Simmons

    OF Trout, Stanton, Cain

    C Molina

    DH Ortiz

P Kershaw, Scherzer, Hamels, Hernandez, Grienke

Who did I omit?  Where am I way off?

Yeah that is the main issue. If you drink soda you are going to think sweet food tastes good and you will gravitate towards it.  I don't find soda tastes good at all. If you focus on sweet foods by the time you get to my age you won't even be able to even run a mile and will start having health issues.

Really have worked in health care field most of my life and I can tell you diabetes is a terrible disease.  Heart disease, kidney failure, loss of limbs.  And it is affecting more and more people. 25 percent of Marylander's who are 65 have diabetes.  14 percent in the 45 to 65 age group.

I am not trying to change peoples eating habits but the parents I am around prefer healthy beverages and snacks.  It would be nice if we had as many healthy options as unhealthy options.

I read that 25% number and had my doubts.  Then I got on the google machine, and that is in line with the national average.  Quite scary.  The information I read stated that 12M people 65 and over have it.  48M people 65 and over seemed low too.  But the census count in 2010 was around 40M.  I would have thought that cohort would have a larger population share.

The good news for me is that I have a low risk according to the online quiz.  So, ha, no doctor’s visit for me.

The Capitals won a Stanley cup as well.  The total percent for the Nats and Skins combined is the same as it was in 2010. Going from 7 to 28 percent is huge. Capital won a Stanley cup, DC united opened a new stadium.

Your last 3 points are irrelevant.  DC residents don’t care about any of that.  Liberal white collar town with tons of money.

Point three is not even true.  Tickets on the secondary market are the lowest I’ve ever seen them in the past 20 years.  It costs a family of four more to take them to see Frozen II than it does to see the Lions/Redskins.

The only way the Jets keep this close is by dumb ass tackling like Chuck Carr just did. AWFUL. Who in the hell tries to tackle at the shoulder pads. You know who? A sissy afraid of contact.

I know you meant Brandon Carr.  Chuck Carr was a baseball player.  My most memorable moment of his was when a reporter asked him about missing a bunt sign.  He replied, “Nah, that ain’t Chuckie’s game.  Chuckie takes ‘em deep.”
