  1. Hopefully, they give Mayo a shot and he just rakes. We'll see I guess.
  2. O'Hearn is having a good year because he's not playing against LHP. They are using him exactly as they should be.
  3. Verdugo has been hitting cleanup all year for them. He missed the first series on paternity leave I believe.
  4. Did I suggest they shouldn't be? I don't believe I did.
  5. Yankees are big favorites on paper, shocking I say, shocking.
  6. I don't disagree, it just wouldn't be unprecedented is all.
  7. Nobody thought Toronto would not cash in on their "window". It slammed shut on them and they had a lot of young talent that regressed pretty hard. Cautionary tales are out there.
  8. William Devane would be the biggest name from mine. Lionel Chalmers had a short stint in the NBA then a long career overseas, and Glen Barker who was drafted by the Tigers and is noted on BBREF as a CF and Pinch Runner are probably the big three.
  9. This made me curious about my own high school in NY, which has about 7500 students in grades 9-12. Looking at the "famous" people that went there, it's pretty thin. Two guys with a year in MLB and NBA and a television actor in the 70's and 80's are probably the biggest. I think the school Henderson went to has 350 students in K-12, so I guess it's not shocking there aren't many big names to come out of it.
  10. Not sure, maybe there just isn't much talent in that part of AL. Even Selma High School, which is free has like 5 noteworthy alumni.
  11. Jeremy Lee is pitching in high-A for the Twins, he's an alum of that school. I'm not sure how many I'd expect from a town with a population of 17,000 people.
  12. Like I said, I didn't know he was sick, I don't pay attention to the Padres at all and it's never been front page of any site that I frequent. If the prognosis is years that paints a different picture.
  13. If the Orioles lose this series I think we can glean that the pitching matchups are not how we would face a very good team in the playoffs. They are what they are in this series and the advantage is clearly in the Yankees favor this week. Weird things happen in baseball, but I wouldn't take too much out of this 3 game set either way.
  14. Yeah, I'd probably be more concerned with other things.
  15. I don't think so, no. I think when people are terminally ill they are concerned with more things than their MLB team winning something, at least I'd like to think there would be many more pressing priorities.
  16. I didn't know this, I suspect a lot of people who aren't fans of the Padres didn't know this.
  17. Stuff+ doesn't look at if a ball is a strike or not. What good is having incredible Stuff+ numbers if you have a WHIP of 1.500. I'm sure Fujinami has great Stuff+ numbers but we all know he can't pitch. I have no idea what PitchingBot is, but Kopech's FIP is 5.67. His xERA is 4.26 and the statcast models do not LOVE Kopech. His Pitching Run Value is negative for every pitch he throws. He's well below average in every area except for xBA, Fastball Velocity, Whiff%, K% and Extension. Every other model is below average to poor. He's prone to giving up HRs as well.
  18. It's a series in mid-June, it's no more important than any other series this month, in my opinion.
  19. I doubt they give him a 2-3 year deal, I do think if he's here it's because they give a QO and he takes it, which I also doubt he'd do, because someone is going to pay him more for longer.
  20. At what cost? You weren't getting Cease for DL Hall and Ortiz or it would have happened. Would you have been fine trading away Westburg or Cowser+ for him? At least he's having an up year from 2023. 2023 2024
  21. Sucks to see players get hurt. I'm sure his AAA replacement will come up and OPS .985 for the next 6 weeks, it's the Yankee way.
  22. I wonder if he could comp with the glove to a guy like Alec Bohm? Big dude, not a great defender, but doesn't kill his team and makes some great plays along the way with the glove while mashing with the bat.
  23. I doubt Tampa is going to have a fire sale, they are getting a bunch of good pitching back by next season and will be in a pretty good spot to be competitive.
  24. I'd guess where there is smoke there is fire. I assume it would be for an excellent player who is under control for a couple of years. We've already given up one generational talent in Ortiz, according to Bryse Wilson, so why not ship another out if it helps the team win now and over the next couple of seasons?
  25. Likely. Trevino and Wells have been pretty decent this year. McCann has been bad. Adley is also pumping our DH WAA up I'd guess.
