  1. I used to feel that way, now it’s the opposite. I think a lot of that has to do with Ortiz retiring. Anyway, time for the Astros to win a few more games.
  2. Miley solid tonight. 4.2 innings of no-run ball. Regular season, post-AS break - 14 starts, 2.66 ERA. No more than 6 innings per start seems to be Milwaukee's solution.
  3. Unlucky 13th start for Wade Miley last night. He gave up 2 ER over 5 innings against the Cubs to raise his ERA to 2.23.
  4. All of the above plus... People don't go to baseball games for absolute accuracy they go for entertainment. Imperfect but organic accuracy is usually sufficient to not break the spell. Occasional disputes only serve to reinforce the belief that some ongoing moderating dynamic is always in play. And that's probably true often enough. Show me a single example of a successful narrative where human beings are subject to the impersonal judgement of machines yet have no ability to even fight back, much less prevail. Yeah, that should put butts in the seats alright. Sterile accuracy might be fair in some abstract sense, but it's not entertaining. In this case it will end up being deeply unsettling even if people can't or won't articulate why they no longer like the game as much as they used to. More fair though.
  5. Completely agree. It's good to see him finally come around. Was getting worried there...
  6. I live in middle Tennessee. I'm sorely tempted nonetheless.
  7. Ghiroli's tweet is huge. Complete organizational sea change. Must mean PA is no longer in control. (Reaching for several grains of salt, right now). Phrasing also seems to suggest that Duquette may still be around. Color me gobsmacked if true...
  8. Tanking is not my style. Waaaay out of my comfort zone. Call it demanding your money's worth and I might get to sleep at night. Maybe...
  9. So OH night in Bowie on Saturday?
  10. The O's have now officially thrown in the towel on 2018, so expect to see Tillman given another - perhaps extended - chance to contribute. Successful? I'm not holding my breath, but I'm no longer outraged at the stupidity of the contract either. Let all the loose ends, save Davis be tied up by October. That includes Trumbo in my ideal world.
  11. Heck yeah. Diaz for three months of Manny is reasonable, but everybody was expecting the Dodgers to get cleaned out which was never likely.
  12. I believe so, at least it used to be. Check with weams. Worth every penny - it's a great community.
  13. Shoot Tony-OH a few dollars every quarter and I'm sure he'll fix that for you.
  14. I broke it in the game thread last night.
  15. Not true. A lot of us were high on his bat before his first call-up. Really the only knock on him was his K rate. He was hitting double-digit HR's and his OPB was averaging around .360. I don't think anybody expected him to be as good as he was last year and probably will continue to be this year.
  16. Boy, talk about the Law of Unintended Consequences coming back to bite you...
  17. One of my favorite Orioles too... I'm sad to see him go, but happy with the opportunity for more playing that might be awaiting him. Never have liked the way he was marginalized from the beginning and still don't, but good luck Mr. Kim.
  18. If I wasn't so lazy at the moment, I would count how many posts it took to get from the simple news that Starling Marte has been suspended for steroid use to thoroughly irresponsible speculation as to whether Cal ever used. My sense is that this time it was a little quicker than usual. Pity the posts aren't numbered anymore.
  19. Unsentimentality coupled with a willingness to occasionally be wrong are great traits for a GM to have.
  20. Note to others... Checking my credit card statement online today, I noticed that CCBill is still charging me quarterly as it did before the the website was re-done and switched to PayPal. I will look into it tomorrow, but don't assume that because you signed up for the new payment scheme, the old one is automatically cancelled.
  21. Be that as it may, I need another account to keep track of - and maintain a password for - like I need shingles. Oh well...done. You guys are worth it. Usually...
  22. Evidently not. I fill in my CC info, address, etc. but I can't get to the next screen without first filling out the "Create your PayPal account" section. I really don't need a PayPal account which is why I don't already have one. Is there some work-around? I read what AnythingO's wrote. Is it necessary to first establish the PayPal account then refuse to confirm it if you don't want it?
  23. It's not letting me use my credit card without logging into my (non-existant) PayPal account. Do I have to have to use PayPal? If not, what am I doing wrong?
  24. If I ever really, truly, genuinely, bone-deep hated someone (a word I rarely use), my curse would be that they live in a perfect world; a world where all ambiguity had been ruthlessly eradicated. Is there anything uglier than sterility?
  25. I thought the dictating was done by the brain of the man who's paid to make decisions. Since the AS break: Trumbo: .186/.271/.442/.713 Kim: .283/.350/.368/.718
