  1. Look at Houston’s top pitchers last year. Verlander, Cole, and Greinke were acquired by trade, Miley a FA who made less than 5M (far less than he made with us the previous few years btw). You don’t need to pay FA prices for pitchers if you can trade for them. You just have to trust that your GM is better than the other guy. When you give away a pitcher you want the Bedard deal, when you get a pitcher you want the Verlander deal. The point is you draft and develop a ton of talent and you can use it as needed.
  2. I’ve only seen the losses, but he’s looked alright to me, unlucky a bit. His BABIP is awful. His LD% is 20 but he’s only 3-28. His xwOBA is decent but not great. Hopefully he’ll turn it around.
  3. His career K/9 is 6.7. The 1989 O’s gave 135 starts to guys who had less than 4.5 K/9 that year, including 75 at 2.6.
  4. Isn’t the “MASN thing” that MASN alone pays the O’s more per year than the Rays typical payroll? Even with the adjustments from losing the court case (I’m assuming it’s lost at this point).
  5. All that’s definitely true. There’s no real reason to dump him as the salary difference for a minimum guy in a prorated season is going to be like $100-200k. And no reliever is really knocking on the door in need of coming up. So hopefully they got a little bit of value. Unless it’s just basically a courtesy loaner like corn just said.
  6. Not the mention the NBA only has like 1/3 the number of players (about half per team, and only about 2/3 of the league is participating). The bubble is probably the safest thing to do but it’s tough to implement, and we have no idea if the MLBPA was on board.
  7. I know, the other poster is mad that Elias didn’t tell us who he’s considering.
  8. So he should be able to put like 6 Marlins minor leaguers on notice that their org wants to trade them? I don’t like that at all. Players generally seem like they don’t like being on the trading block. If it was flipped, I don’t think it’s too good for say Kyle Stowers’ or Darrell Hernaiz’s morale if Derek Jeter announces he’s considering them for some random reliever.
  9. Brad Brach only got us international slots that we may not even have planned to use. I don’t know what people expect to get for Bleier.
  10. He's a Boras guy. Don't usually get many discounts there. To get a deal you would have had to sign him long term while he had a ruptured Achilles. Seems pretty unlikely, especially with the O's ownership.
  11. Mid to late June just to be safe with super 2.
  12. How much are you supposed to get in return for 25 innings of a guy who hadn't really been healthy in two years?
  13. I agree random Madden games on TV are stupid. But it was amusing watching Hollywood Brown win the celebrity Madden tournament a few months ago using himself to score a key TD.
  14. And eventually it’s just pitcher vs hitter, mano a mano, like the gods intended.
  15. Plus we get that sweet extra inning man on second starting in the 8th I guess?
  16. I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes 7/161 in January 2016 (or even 10/230). He ended up getting 3/32.5 during 2016-18, so that’s 4/128.5 for the FA years. Seems fair on both sides.
  17. I don’t know the rules (and maybe, as the Marlins showed, there are no rules) but if he worked out with everybody Tuesday and was now positive, you’d think at least some guys would be isolating.
  18. Moose's mother doesn't have a 30% LD rate. But like Davis she probably doesn't have any barrels either.
  19. He was a good player for a time. Could have used him against the Royals. But I have nothing against him or anyone making whatever they can get. I just wish it would have been someone like the Red Sox that signed him (and then somehow traded him to the Dodgers, as they always do).
  20. If they’re manipulating to super 2 that’s really annoying. I’d hope Mountcastle is up and in LF tomorrow.
  21. I hate allowing 5 runs on 3 hits.
  22. He is sloooow. 12th percentile in the league last year, 22nd the year before. While that isn't necessarily dispositive it doesn't bode well for his athleticism imo.
