Not interest in the career of Adley Rutschman. Interest in buying a baseball team to produce a winner. Some of these billionaires actually value a winning legacy when they buy these teams. Can't speak for Rubenstein but that's obviously the hope.

Almost all of those billionaires care more about making money- that's why they're billionaires.  And you'll watch, those ownership groups in SD and NY will act much differently as the financial losses mount up.  In fact, we're already seeing that play out.

No, I just think it's weird that, after 30 years of mostly terrible ownership, the Angelos family could be looking to sell and your first thought is "Jeez, that guy is old, it would suck to have to go through this again in 10 years."

I mean, if that's your reality, that's cool.  I think most of us would just be thrilled to get Angelos gone.

Peter was a terrible owner.  John has been ok as an acting boss.  He's annoying, and he would do well to stfu, but he's done EXACTLY what we all called for for decades: Hire a competent baseball man and gtfo of the way.  And it has worked out wonderfully for us.

The biggest problem with him is he is cash poor.

I guess what I'm saying is it really is possible to get a worse ownership group than what we currently have.  The next time the owner loses continence, which with this guy could be very soon, we have no idea what we would get.

The team really wasn’t built with trades.

No, no team is solely built on trades.

Indisputably though, they got their number 1 starter through a trade and all they gave up was the broken down corpse of Dylan Bundy.

I’m not convinced that Elias is good at trading. We really haven’t seen him trade for anyone worthwhile yet. Fuji was a salary dump, Flaherty was a loser as we basically got nothing worth talking about out of him.

Kyle Bradish wants to know how closely you follow the team.

  5. They won't add anybody this offseason of enough consequence to bury any of the top guys listed above, but they'll still be adding guys.

I wouldn't be surprised if they made trades in Spring Training.  They've done that in the bullpen for the last two springs.  They scout ST and target guys.

But it’s still subjective. And even if you agree with it, answering this solely because of ranking and ignoring age, positional needs, long term upside, etc….Is odd to me.

I did that the other day in one of your proposed trades and you gave me crap about not taking the better prospects.  LOL.

I think you pose these hypotheticals to bolster whatever point you want to make, regardless of consistent principles.

I think what you're saying makes sense for most teams, but the Yankees have shown that a bad contract or move doesn't really change their plans.

Most teams would have been in panic mode after the Rodón signing, but they can just brush it off. It wouldn't surprise me to see them dump Stanton if he's as bad as last year. They just have a willingness to throw prospects and money away and keep on clicking along.

Yeah, they're the motherf-ing Yankees.  They're not just going to fall apart.

    However, we're talking about optimization.

He’s going to be the closer. No doubt about that.

He'd start the season as closer for sure.  Let's hope he doesn't force their hand, but they will make a change if it's in the best interest of the club.

This should tell you something about the trade value of Austin Hays after next season.   Verdugo was 27 last season, had an OPS+ of 100 (career 105) and was worth 2.6 rWAR last year (11.1 career).   Hays was 27 years old this year, had an OPS+ of 114 (career 107), and was worth 2.5 rWAR this year (9.0 career).   The biggest difference between them is that Verdugo has 5 years of service (651 games played), while Hays has 4 years if service (494 games).

Eh.  The benched this dude for showing up late last season.  They wanted him out of the clubhouse.

The rarity of the trade between these two teams should show the motivation of the seller.

    Hays has no such baggage.

I'm eager to see what he gets. MLBTR predicted a positively unhinged 12/$264. If that actually happens, it's going to be one of the worst contracts of all time IMO.

That would make the Davis contract look prudent.
