They absolutely have to trade some prospects. It’s foolish to say otherwise.

The trades don’t have to be this offseason but it makes little sense to wait.

What if they traded the veterans instead?

Nobody ever lost betting that John Angelos is a cheapskate, but the O's have too many prospects and need to get rid of some of them.  My preference would be for pitching.

I think if it was really like that, Elias would be trading the veterans.

For the second time, I never said HE was anti extension. Never even insinuated it.

What I said is that this argument that it’s an “unfair system” is a lie. It’s a cover up for our awful owner.  It’s nothing more than that.

I just wish members if the media would actually call him out on it and ask why the smallest market teams are able to do it but not the Os.

    Do what?

    Sign extensions?  LOL.

Calm down bro.  I'm not trying to fight ya.

The smallest of the small market teams give out pre arbitration extensions.  It’s a flat out lie to talk about it.

They aren’t doing because of Angelos..not because of the system.

This is at least implying he was referring to extensions.  But ok, not directly.

No snark, but did I miss something in those comments that Elias said that was against extensions?

    Wow.  Thats crazy to me.

And presumably, if you trade Kremer, you are adding another starter.

I would much rather do the second package and trade Cowser for Woo.  Not that Woo is the only guy to add but just using that as an example.

Far more upside in that rotation.

Well, I mean I wouldn't either package to be clear.

This isn’t reality but more hypothetical.

If you had to make the trade, which of these are you doing:

    Cowser and Ortiz

    Kremer, Ortiz, Norby and Stowers

I wouldn't do either but if I had to choose one I'd choose the first package.

At least I'd feel like I had upgraded my rotation for the next two years.

Sending Kremer out and bringing Cease in- yes, Cease is better with more upside- but overall the rotation isn't all that improved.

I agree …. I’m guessing they’re not getting offered one of our top 5 and Ortiz plus a 3rd that’s possibly Kremer. I’d like to see Elias make a take it or leave it offer and then move on.

The suggestion that Kremer be part of this package is one of the more ludicrous suggestions going around.

I was pleasantly surprised that not every writer thinks it should take a “monster package”.  Of course, that’s subjective.  I will be very surprised if Elias includes 2 of our top 7-8 prospects.  That might mean he misses out but that’s okay.   Can’t wait until this is over.  Lol

The top three are untouchable. They can have one of Cowser, Kjerstad, Ortiz, and Westburg if you want to count him as a prospect.  And then some lesser pieces.

Or they can go get a bunch of 19 year old pitchers and piss off because they're starting to annoy me.  ;)

I keep checking the Cease thread on the White Sox board.  Someone posted this tweet.

That would be too funny.  The D-Backs #7 who averages 90 mph and projects as a 4-5 starter.  I’m sure there’s something more but this is funny on face value.

And we're supposed to believe we MUST give up two top global 50 prospects.

So you think Elias and JA are going to sign a pitcher to a 4-5 year deal likely in the 18-25M a year range?  You think that’s realistic?

It's certainly within the realm of possibility.

We heard they had interest in Nola.  Surely that interest would have acknowledged that he would receive a contract exceeding what you lay out above.

We shouldn’t do a trade just because we can.  Ortiz stands a good chance of being as valuable as Cease but for 6 years instead of 2.   I like Cease.  As Stan Laurel said about Barnaby, “But I don’t love him”.

That's close to where I am.

To give up that package for Cease, the FO should be confident they are going to be able to get better performance from Cease than he has (with one notable exception) delivered so far in his career.

If they feel that way, I trust them.

If they don't feel that way, I trust them.
