We have seen this with every pitcher on this team .. starter sailing along then it seems they suddenly lose complete control of the strike zone

I mean pitchers get tired but Kremer hadn't even reached 80 pitches when he started that inning.  It's been awhile since I've seen any O's starter lose it so suddenly like that.  He's been a little shakier lately but he was great against the Phillies and a bit further back in NY against the Yankees.  He just kind of inconsistent.

Based on the unusual lineup tonight, I would guess the data analysis was undecided about which way to go, so it looks like they split the difference. O’Hearn is in the lineup but Frazier is not. Also, McKenna and no Cowser.

Yeah good point.  If he is a reverse splits kind of starter you'd expect Frazier in there over Westburg, especially as hot as Frazier has been.  Guessing there are some other analytics in the decision making too.

  3. DL Hall because this team needs pitching.  With the exception of Ortiz, the others just take away at-bats from players who have contributed to this team's winning.

Unless he gets traded in the offseason, Ortiz will have Mateo's job soon enough.  I like Mateo and think he deserves at-bats against lefties, but he had been glad with the glove lately.  If he keeps that up he will get cut.  He might get cut anyway since I'm not sure he's tradeable at his salary.

I've never thought Hyde has had much regard for managing pitchers' psyches. Plenty of people here will tell you tough stuff and that they have to suck it up. Which, okay. But pitchers are fragile, fickle creatures. Most of them don't admit it, but maybe something about Fuji being from Japan frees him from the macho man routine and allows him to be honest about the stresses that pitchers face and how it affects their approach/control.

I realize we only have him for a half season, but if you want this guy to be able to contribute in October, I think you have to build him up. Putting him into these situations could be counterproductive in the long run. I don't think he's a guy who is going to learn from a trial by fire or failing forward.

The problem is there is no long run with this guy.  Unless they desire to re-sign him, which right now appears pretty unlikely, he's a rental.

only care about this year and his ground ball rate in a spot starter, reliever role at zero cost and zero risk.

He's pitched well this year but only in AAA.  He hasn't pitched in the majors since last year.

  6. He started the season pretty slow but not too bad and then had a terrible June and July.  He's been OK against lefties though not great.  Hopefully some struggling team that's could use a right handed DH type will give him a shot.  Hard to believe his skills are completely gone this fast.
