    Chicago Cubs 2023

GTown Prep kid. Saw him play a couple times in HS. Chris Rodriguez has done a fantastic job of turning GTP into the best program in the DMV. I wish Mervis all the luck in the world. It’s fun to pull for the local kids.

Tony, you are a stud. Never forget that. You out OPS everyone. Lotta posters have high OBP but your SLG can’t be touched! and for the record when you posted those charts I didn’t have any rep left to give that day
  3. Witt is going to be good. He's fun to watch. Was not stoked when he came up as tying run in the 9th yesterday.
  4. Was impressed by Nebraska up in MN and have had todays date circled on the calendar. Nebraska @ UMD tonight at 630. Anyone in the area I highly recommend. Inexpensive high level baseball. Brice Matthews is killing it Max Anderson is too Still like my man shaw
  5. Thanks, I value your opinion which is why I asked. I'm not very well versed on how they move guys up or what they look for before promotions (short of the offensive requirements to handling pitching). I know they like to get ~200 ABs. Was hoping they could get their 200 in Aberdeen and be in Bowie at end of year, if all things went as well as possible.
  6. You don’t think with a good showing they can end there as a final placement? I hoped they would be in Aberdeen by end of June and with a a solid July/august could be promoted for last month of season for a taste of what’s to come next year.
  7. Was thinking the same thing. Kinda waiting for a press release that says he’s shut down.
  8. 22-7 They are fun to watch.
  9. Agree. They should get a talent infusion in the second half of the year. Imagine Holiday, Beavers, Fabian, Basallo, and Willems could end there if they all continue to play well. Prieto looks like he’s out on some muscle.
  10. I’m going to start another thread on this but I’m curious what the unintended ramifications of the ABS will be. IE the batters interference today. I wonder if the home plate umpire will be more vigilant to other infractions that have gotten a “slide” in the past now that the heavy lifting of calling balls and strikes is off their plate? The ball strike ratio was skewed by all the swing and miss at non-competitive pitches…..unless his stuff is just that good
  11. He looked terrible overall. Missed arm side all day long. Hit a batter. The swing decisions by the Bulls were awful. Had they been more patient, he would have walked 6 and had a 2 ip outing. He got lucky in first on a batter interference call on a steal attempt (runner reached on an walk). Had a strike out/CS in 4th. The 17 whifs kept him in the game, but to me it looked like the majority of those whiffs were on obvious balls. He gave up some hard contact. Couple balls just missed going out. The curve looked nice. Got a lot of swing and misses on that pitch. He’s got to get some stuff figured out.
  12. Saw him play a game as a freshman in 2021 v. GT and he stole like 5 bases or something ridiculous. I’ve been a fan since. His bat has steadily improved each year and ks have dropped
  13. He’s been playing like a man on a mission. I’m going up give him the benefit of the doubt playing in that weird stadium with a difficult roof and difficult batters eye. He put up numbers in that tourney and really has stepped on the gas since. He had 30 SB in 44 games and 42 BBS to 26Ks. 15 of his 48 hits are xbh. By all accounts he’s a good character guy and hard worker. He’s a steal at 17 and we’d be so lucky if he were available.
  14. His bat is good to go. I think they want to iron out some some foot work and ensure he can make all the throws they are going to task him with (playing 3B & 2B). Don’t see him at SS much for MLB Os with the folks in front of him. But at same time they want him to get reps and be SS ready for a potential trade.
  15. Might be trying help out the “old” 32y/o back-up as well. I’ve noticed they’ve put Adley in to catch a couple times on “off” days as late inning D replacement after running for Mcann. Wonder isn’t this is to help take some load off both. As Santander so emphatically displayed on Tuesday, catching is brutal.
  16. It seems like we have the tools to fix the D problem. It will be interesting to see how these metrics look at the halfway point.
  17. I agree, I'm very bad at writing my thoughts clearly and concisely And, yes if I worded anything wrong it would be technically it was with-in his first year (I went back and re-read and saw how that could be confusing). I was going by Calendar year.... Elias started 2018 being year 1....first international signing was in 2019 year two. I will work on my writing; I know it's lacking.
  18. Where was Adley playing when he was 19 y/o? He had just been drafted in the 40th round and was working his freshman year at Orgeon... Defining upside is a challenge. Willems at 19 hammering A ball and has a cannon of an arm. You could make the argument that he has a higher upside? no Last time I checked we have a few pretty interesting 16/17 y/o SSs in the system, who in.....3 years time might have that same high ceiling as the guys you listed.
  19. As noted, I was specifically referring to this regime. They started Nov 2018 and first participated in the Int draft in 2019. 2019 was the first year The Orioles Organization participated in the draft in earnest. Do you not agree? *but when you cut out half my quote I can see how one might get confused...
  20. No doubt. Those early guys also didn't have the advantage of a polished system to run through, though. Coby Mayo, Joey Ortiz, Connor Norby, & Creed Willems make me quite confident in their drafting abilities. I'll be keeping a close eye on Fabian, Bright, Wagner, & Ardoin as a litmus test to the continued ability to draft after round 1.
  21. I like my chances. I'd say half the board was convinced that after Adley graduated from the prospect list that we'd fall way down the rankings. Believe we had 5 top prospects when Adley was at the top of the heap. How many do we have now? How many will likely be in future 100 rankings later this summer? IMO what they are building is sustainable and growable.
  22. My point is we are in year 5 of this regime. In year 1 they mostly evaluated and started to make some internal and systemic adjustments. Through years 2 & 3 they completely cleaned house and started to implement their technologies, systems, and training programs. Not sure the turnover rate, but it was very significant. In year 2 they participated in the international market for the very first time. In year 3 they began to build the international facility that will be huge in sales pitches to the international market. In year 4 they still had a lot of players in the system from the old regime that had not started their training with this group and the very first few players drafted and brought in made it MLB. Now in year 5, all their systems, technologies, coaches, and staffs are well entrenched in their teachings and processes. They have a pipeline of American talent and a pipeline of international talent. The very first international players are just now appearing on full season teams. Those were players we had to pick up off the scrap heap. 4 years later Perez has made relationships and inroads with all the 12/13/14 yo's he first met when he came on the job who will be eligible for the 2023 int signing period. They have a shiny new state of the art facility that they can use as their selling tool along with an established major league development system that has produced top end talent. There are 7 int prospects in the top 30. In three years' time when Basallo is the #1 prospect in all of baseball and his future replacement is getting his feet wet in Delmarva and our top 30 has ~15 int. players is when I think our system will be at an 'all time' & 'historic' level. And if he's able to pick a Willems in rd 8 (assuming he's the real deal - big assumption) then there is no where to go but up for the the future of the system. Sorry for tangent - back to Westburg My man had 3 hits last night woot woot!
  23. Fingers crossed for a positive showing from Hall at noon today
  24. Did they have to put him on the 26 man, or could they just have put him directly in Norfolk? Is him being on the 26man purely admin maneuvering? I don't quite get it. I understand taking a guy you like that is more talented than your 40th man, but to put him directly onto the 26th is odd to me. He had a nice year in 2021. Wonder what they saw that they liked. Also wonder if Mcann is able to make it the entire year as backup - who knows, maybe Mcann has some stuff he's dealing with that their medical staff thinks might really bear itself in a month or two. Strange move.
