  1. Didn't want to start another Davis thread, so I will put this here. We can all rest easy that a power hitting first basement will not be needed for 2021! https://www.rotoworld.com/baseball/mlb/player/18768/chris-davis Chris Davis (knee) said Wednesday that he is "100 percent committed" to being ready for the start of spring training. Davis appeared in only 16 total games this past season for the Orioles due to lingering patellar tendinitis in his left knee and batted just .115/.164/.173 when healthy. He has a .550 OPS in 929 plate appearances since the beginning of 2018. The veteran first baseman is still owed $46 million on a contract that runs through 2022.
  2. In his Athletic article today, Connolly lightly suggests Simmons for SS. Looks like his defense is slipping a bit, but still could be a good get for us if the market doesn't bare out for him. Very unlikely I am sure. https://theathletic.com/2248681/2020/12/09/orioles-hot-stove-freeze-alex-cobb/?source=dailyemail If an Iglesias 2.0 is still standing in a month or two — Freddy Galvis, maybe Andrelton Simmons in a depressed market — well, the Orioles would fish in that pool if possible. Even on a pact beyond a standard, one-year term? Maybe, but not likely.
  3. One thing I will forever remember about Hess is that look on his face when Hyde came to take him out during his no no
  4. I don't know, if he is on his way to another almost 4 win year and he is cheap, I can't believe some team wouldn't be interested. Espeically if that team is in the hunt and has a key injury of a middle infielder. I know that is a very unlikely outcome and yes I would be OK with him as a replacement over other options (he is at least entertaining to watch play, if not always the smartest player).
  5. If the price is right, I like Villar as an option. He did struggle in 2020, but that might just help the price be right and maybe he really does well for us again and can be dealt at the deadline.
  6. I am hoping they promote many players this upcoming year. I want to see what we really have for whoever is ready, hoping they think it’s time to use some of the “talent” they have been amassing.
  7. Fair enough. I’m not SG dreaming of a sale either but it was the coaches axing that actually got me thinking that way. Because I still don’t understand that one (at those limited salaries (comparatively)).
  8. Wouldn’t you want locked expenses at a bare minimum. The buyer only wants the assets, right? Honestly above my pay grade but just seems like a possibility. But yea, unlikely.
  9. I still wonder If they are getting ready to sell the team (and trying to rebuild at the same time).
  10. I get it. But not happy. I loved that old school hitter.
  11. So we got Middleton, Stallings and Pinto? Or the Middleton post was facetious? Edit: I see I was duped. @Roll Tide emoticons are available should you need them in the future. Edit 2: @Roll Tide look for the check mark! ?
  12. And Wells probably throws harder than either of them, right? I’m just hoping he has a shot. Would be fun to watch a pitcher like that succeed today.
  13. Yea I just figured most doesn’t think Wells will be able to offer much if any value at the MLB level. Just the impression I get. But Jamie Moyer....
  14. If it does come down to Pop or Wells who would you choose? Shoulda done a multi option poll! I think it’s a tough call, but I am guessing most here would say to protect Pop. But I like Wells. I love it when the underdog succeeds.
  15. Saw a report on MASN that Victor Robles is playing in the Dominican Winter league and got intrigued, was hoping several Orioles representatives would be there that we could follow, but quickly looking, I could only find one O's player. Marcos Diplan. On the same team as Robles: http://mlb.mlb.com/milb/stats/roster.jsp?t=t_ros&sid=l131&cid=667
  16. Absolutely and completely unrelated and apologies for being off topic, but Mark's name reminded me of Kerry Wood which reminded me of this documentary about Wood's 20k game which is excellent IMO So....in a complete useless attempt to keep it on topic, what about Hill, he pitched well in 8 games for the Twins last year. Probably too expensive for the O's regardless.
  17. Well said, but Baines should not be in the HOF in my opinion. And I was/is a huge Baines fan. Loved his swing, was a thing of beauty. It will be interesting to see how LaRussa handles that young Whitesox team
  18. Ray is off the board. First free agent deal of the offseason is done. Left-hander Robbie Ray and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a one-year, $8 million deal, a source familiar with the contract tells ESPN. Good start to the hot stove for Toronto, which will use Ray as a starter, and for Ray. Tweet from Jeff Passan
  19. LaRussa thinks Harold Baines is a legitimate Hall of Famer based on his game winning RBI’s. I’m guessing analyitics are not high on his list. Agreed very interesting hire. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mlb.com/amp/cut4/tony-la-russa-and-chris-russo-debate-harold-baines-c301782986.html
  20. I like the Archer idea. I know anything do with shoulders for a pitcher is risky, but if it would be a Milb deal, why not? He was a fun pitcher to watch (when he wasn't facing the O's).
  21. Good point! I will miss Hanser if it does go that way. Such an enjoyable player to watch.
