  1. I see the opposite. To me it looks more like someone trying to squeeze every penny out of their asset. I can't see a potential buyer caring about an expense at this level.
  2. It's January 22nd. What else are we going to talk about?
  3. Jake reduced to auditioning for teams.
  4. I think he will be as ready in year two as he will be in year three. Either he's a ML ballplayer or not, I don't think adjusting the rate at which he advances through the minors is going to change that. Now might his rookie year numbers look a bit better? Sure. But his career numbers might actually benefit from earlier advancement.
  5. I'm guessing it comes from the left hand being awkward for most people? Evidently it is also a term used in music.
  6. You could say they traded the picks 2, 103 and 133 for picks 10, 67 and 75.
  7. They hadn't? Wasn't that their job? Why would they not have adjusted their rankings?
  8. Wieters. Yea that guy. He only played in the Hawaiian league the year he was drafted. Spent the next season in the minors and was called up as soon as they were done manipulating his service time in his second full year. Was a league average player that first year. The O's have picked exactly two college bats in the top 5 since then, neither one of which has been in the system for two full seasons. If you want to look at pitchers both Matusz and Gausman were up and producing positive WAR by their second full season.
  9. I think you got it backwards, his spin rate wasn't high enough.
  10. I agree that Gary is likely gone.
  11. I just hope they don't bring in a complete homer of a broadcaster. But even if they do, I bet this saves the team some $!
  12. Elias had been trying for weeks to contact him on WhatsApp.
  13. I'd say it's an integral part of how the Rays do business.
  14. I know what I said. I didn't like the pick. But I also don't think spending an extra year in the minors is going to fundamentally change who he is. Unless you have to do something drastic, like rebuild a swing (Stewart, Grenier), college bats picked in the first round aren't going to need a ton of developing.
  15. You think he would have to be very advanced to be of help after a year and a half in the minors? How high is your bar for "help"? If he can put up 1 WAR in half a season while making league minimum does that qualify as "help"? I'd say it does. I'd also say that a very realistic scenario for a college bat that went 1-2. Of course I won't at all be surprised if Elias instead games his service time. Or if we don't have a 2022 season at all.
  16. It's harder with position players if they are doing well but yea, with pitchers it's super easy. Sorry, we need another bullpen arm and you have options. See you in 10 days.
  17. To get meta up in here how about a main gauche?
  18. Didn't one pundit declare his bat ML ready after the draft?
  19. He's a bat first college player that went in the top 10 in the draft. Why are you picking him that high if he's going to take three years to be ready? I think folks confuse needing time in the minors with teams keeping players in the minors to try and maximize value. Did you know players can actually continue to develop in the majors?
  20. To cite a player being a gold glove finalist as your sole evidence of their defensive skill is the very height of foolishness. A gold glove nomination is not a meaningful achievement.
  21. I thought it was for the Athletic to tell you the truth.
  22. Ah yes, gold glove finalist. Must make him also as good in right as Jeter was short and Palmeiro was at first.
  23. My expectations for 2022 do not include a significant increase in payroll.
  24. I don't trust the pitching to be ready in 2022.
