From what I've seen Mountcastle has clearly superior bat to ball skills.

They need to see if he can hit before that's worth looking at. If you can't hit at catcher you need to be a plus plus glove utility guy.

You think Mountcastle is going to strike out more than late career Davis? He had 139K in 307 at bats in 2019.

That was last May. He might be ready to go in the near future. Or they could just set him out and err on the side of caution.

Winning games isn't a concern for Elias. I can't say if he'd rather get a higher pick than win games but he's pretty clearly not willing to promote young players before their service time can be gamed...I mean before they are ready. He's also not shown much of a willingness to expend resources to improve the product on the field.

Being competitive isn't a concern.
