I don't think it does.
You don't have room on the roster for a guy that can hit OK against 25% of the pitchers out there but you can't trust to field his position.
Assuming he stays healthy and doesn't have some sort of complete meltdown he's opting out.
Even if he doesn't, there is nothing stopping the O's from trading him.
The issue with trading Santander or Hays is mostly you have teams that are struggling as being the potential trade partners. Normally that isn't a great fit.
I think that is the type of trade that doesn't get made today due to the increased amount of data out there.
Pappas wasn't a stiff but there is no doubt that his numbers were positively impacted by the defense playing behind him and the park he was in.
I wasn't suggesting a call up to the Majors was likely but it is the type of move a team in the playoff rush can make.
Bring up a high K guy to fortify the pen. I can see it and the 40 man roster shouldn't be a deal breaker if there is a legitimate need.
