  1. How did the other three make out?? The O's will win close to or over 100 games this season without being a "feared" power hitting team. Many feared power hitting teams will be on vacation in six days. Power does not always equate to wins.
  2. Up 0-2 and walk a batter. Might as well hit the batter and save pitches!!!
  3. Likely hurt the team?? The team is 4-2 since his injury, losing the first two games to TB. They certainly weren't going to rush him to the IL. Definitely instances where the team could have used McKenna?? Really??
  4. Urias's D should be fine.....but, you have to have some concern. The throw last night was poor, but O'Hearn should have had it. I actually have more concern with O'Hearn at first than Urias at 3rd. O'Hearn just doesn't look comfortable there yet. His stretches just appear awkward. I like Westburg at 2nd. I'm sure he can handle routine plays at third. I'm not sure he has the arm.
  5. I like Adley. He has a better eye than most umps and his great eyes have cost him on close pitches. I, also believe he takes too many close pitches that he could likely put in play. In Umpires We Do Not Trust.
  6. Safe by an oven mitt? I have some issues with the "mitt". How regulated are they? One size fits all? Visually, to me, it seems like it adds at least an inch to a player's hand. A player would be stupid not to use one. Yesterday's play at the plate, if he wasn't wearing a mitt would have been a more obvious out. I also have some other issues with added equipment, especially elbow pads. A batter gets a base if the ball just ticks the pad? Some seem pretty big. That's an offensive weapon if a player uses it. Lastly, I have a beard question...ball hits a beard of a long bearded player...Does he get HBP?? I suppose he does, but, to me it seems crazy. I know ticking a uniform is a HBP, but I've seen umps tell a player to tuck in jersey if it's too obviously hanging.
  7. It seems to me that the'23 O's have had more big innings (4 or more runs) than I ever recall. In addition, it also seems the team as a whole is more disciplined, not going for the long ball necessarily, take a walk (AR, GH and even RM) and hit him where "they ain't". Fun to watch with the overall team speed. This team does not play base to base ball, depending on the long ball.
  8. Demeanor on the mound. Was he suppose to be all smiley?? The mound without having your stuff and struggling is a pretty lonely place to be. You try things and they don't work and it gets lonelier. Gibson for the most part seems to be able to struggle through rough spots, not pretty but he often finds a way. Flaherty does not have the ability. GR yesterday in many ways reverted to his earlier starts. Up, 0-2, 1-2 and loses the batter....walk, HBP, hits. High pitch counts. People like it when he K's people. I prefer innings with pop-ups, weak ground balls and a low pitch count. It didn't happen yesterday. Flaherty disappoints, but I'm more worried about GR. Too many innings?? Just a hiccup. I don't know.
  9. If Urias and O'Hearn make plays on those 2 ground balls 7-2????
  10. Keep it up boys.....so good to be in middle school again.
  11. I don't know, Tuesday's Prime TV game is Boston -NY. It MUST be an important game.
  12. Indeed, April does count. Ask the Rays, 13-0 start.
  13. Impactful?? Gibson's last start, he throws a strike well within the shown zone, called a ball. Gibson adjusts..I assume he thinking I'm not getting that call. Next pitch grooves one HR. (first run of the game)...Home plate umpires can really f'up a pitcher's mind. I guess a batter's too, but a starting pitcher is looking to throw 100 pitches.
  14. I'm looking more (or hoping for) a Dennis Martinez outcome. Get comfortable in the pen, pitching at the MLB level and then move to a starter.
  15. Be sure not to enjoy this year. Let's speculate on next year...
  16. In case you don't remember, there is a little thing called HIPAA....unless a player says "Go ahead and tell the World of my medical conditions" he has and should have the right to privacy. Even Vegas and betting does not have the right..and they are smart enough to adjust their odds accordingly despite not knowing exactly the problem.
  17. Define moment....last 30 games, BA .382, OBP .444, SLG .618. I am sure many here are VERY disappointed that he has had some recent success and prefer a slumping RM.
  18. Young and for the most part have some speed...As much as most complain about RM...he hustles down the line and beats out throws or make plays closer than they should be...even AR has turned routine singles into doubles. They push the envelope quite a bit...sometimes get caught, but not often. They play smart, hard baseball for nine innings every night.
  19. A lot of that depends on the player's willingness to move around and maintain a positive attitude. That, I'm sure is difficult for some players that have been set at one "star" position for a while. They have to be reminded there is no "I" in team. To some degree their agents are going to sell that as a $$$$ maker for the client. They might have to create a 10th Gold Glove for rover.
  20. I am not sure whether the O's could beat either team, but, the O's have played 83 games against teams with teams greater than .500 (47-36). The Braves 65 (40-25) and the Dodgers 62 (only 32-30). The O's can play with anybody. And, maybe it's not measurable, they out hustle every team I've seen. They bust it down 1st base, take the extra base..they are exciting to watch.
  21. IMO a bit of a brain fart by Seattle....who steals 3rd with a left hander at bat?? Either the pitcher ignored Mullins or the SS wasn't holding him. I imagine the SS was behind the bag with a leftie at the plate.
  22. Let's hope we can get another 80 pages on KB...and maybe repeat the RF year old interview. Let's keep on speculating. I care about the product on the field..KB is ok, but he doesn't win games. And when you get tired of this go back to RM, he's always good for a few negative pages.
  23. Probably my last comment on this. I would be really disappointed if Ben McDonald and Jim Palmer put up with this if the "statement" was the reason. Both are seemingly secure and I would hope they would protest in some manner (not show up??) if this was the case. They are cowards IMO if they infer it's ok to be suspended if that was the case. Professionalism includes standing up for a colleague that is getting screwed.
  24. Laughingstock team with huge payroll, in last place by 12.5 games behind the Orioles blast that team over play-by play controversy. It is hard for me to believe there isn't more to this story (I could be very wrong here). If JA truly did base his suspension on that comment alone then, something wrong with the man. People in any business do not survive very long with that kind of trigger finger.
