I could see it happen but the Os should be welcoming people like this into their organization. People who care, not robots.

Should be, yes.  But the Angeloses seem to like yes-men (Brady, albeit he is no longer there, and Roch, who seems to be a yes-man).

I think he’s supposed to play SS, so in theory they still need a third baseman.

Fair enough.  With the confusing signing of Fraizer, there is simply nowhere for Urias to play on a regular basis (which he should be doing).  A trade to the fish for pitching makes sense.

No, the PR is that they tell people it’s not hurt the future or something like that.

They are lying to us. It’s a complete fabrication of things.

Im actually ok with the payroll this year (and knowing they likely add a little more).  It’s how they are spending it and they won’t spend it more long term because of ownership.

As I said in another thread, the only acceptable reason is selling the team. That’s it. I would gladly punt an offseason to get rid of this family.

Punt an offseason to punt the Angelos family to another dimension.  I like the sound of that.

Elias planted a garden. He has nurtured and watered it. Now he’s waiting for the yield before he runs to the grocery store.

But if his goal is to cook a delicious dinner (i.e. make the playoffs), he cannot make the meal entirely from the garden.  He will need to pick things up from the grocery store to complete the meal.

If we get Archer, even on a Harvey deal, I will pee on the Warehouse.

but he used to be really good for the Rays! And some Orioles fans are naive enough (and Roch and the FO will try to sell it) that he is an upgrade! We didn't even need Bassitt or Eovaldi, we got Archer!!

Could we convince the Marlins that Hays could play CF for 2023?  If so, Hays, Tate, and Haskin for Pablo Lopez?  The Marlins do love our relievers.

With the signing of Segura, it looks like an outfielder is a better match for them over an infielder such as Urias or Mateo in any trade for a pitcher.  I think they would value Hays, but not as a CF.  They are probably still targeting Mullins in any deal for Lopez.

I can already see it now, Roch writing about Voth, Watkins, and a few other minor leaguers getting starts in spring training as if they are rotation candidates. Meanwhile Grayson makes 4 spring training starts without ever going more than 3 innings and is sent to AAA to "build his innings"

something something the production of the top free agents at a fraction of the cost something something lol

He's totes a #1-#3 pitcher once our Wizard gets done tinkering!

I actually do like Spenser and got some Miguel Gonzalez vibes from him last year.  But my uneducated "vibes" from watching him should not be enough for the Orioles (and Roch) to try to sell him to the fans as a "good" starting pitcher.

Ah yes watch the young kids play. Just like year when the young kids were delayed and delayed getting called up and then we watched Odor, Aguliar, and Nevin play.

I fully expect more of the same this year. I am not looking forward to watching Fraizer, Franchy Cordero, and Mazara play. Hell I am still not convinced they don't pull some vodoo BS and have Grayson Rodriguez start in AAA because of his "injury"

It would be very Orioles of them to somehow have Spenser Watkins in the Opening Day rotation.  And Roch talking him up as being just as good as the free agents we didn't sign. Because Orioles.

The only teams to spend money this year are big market teams. We’re not a big market team and probably never will be. Plus we have many of our answers in the minors (hopefully).

we’re still a couple years away imo from being true contenders

Teams that have given out multi-year contracts of $10M or more:

    • Red Sox
    • Blue Jays
    • Yankees
    • Rays (!)
    • Mets
    • Phillies
    • Braves (Murphy)
    • Cubs
    • White Sox
    • Guardians
    • Rangers
    • Angels
    • Giants
    • Padres

I think it's a poor excuse (and factually incorrect) to defend the Orioles because only "big market teams" spent money.

I suspect that we're going to find out that at least some of Kremer/Bradish/Wells won't be able to replicate their 2022 success going forward. No one should be counting on Means for significant contributions in 2023. If he's able to, great, but there's no certainty there. And Hall needs to figure out his control issues before he can be expected to be a major contributor. I would have much more confidence in someone like Bassitt or Eovaldi to perform in 2023 than any of those guys.

Yup.  This is a great post, and a big reason why the Orioles, if they are trying to compete in 2023 (which they said they were, didn't they?) should have signed Eovaldi or Bassitt.

Free agent deals are notoriously risky. Especially for pitchers. No wonder Elias doesn't want to go there.

Ones like 5 years 185 for deGrom do.  Two years 35M for Eovaldi and one year 10 for Kluber come iwth almost no risk, especially for a team with zero long term salary commitments.

Probably will be a huge meltdown when he signs with a non contender or with a contender as their 6th SP. He’s the last of this tier left. The next tier down is guys that should probably only get NRI ST invites.

Eh.  At this point, I'm kind of indifferent.  I wouldn't be mad if they sign Wacha, but I don't think I'll be too upset if they don't.  They missed their chance when they didn't sign Bassitt and Eovaldi (and Kluber to a lesser degree).

Can't wait for that game in July where Kluber goes 8 innings of 3 hit shutout ball against us.

It's basically guaranteed to happen.  I really cannot imagine any viable excuse for not at least matching this one year deal with no draft pick compensation attached.  Can't they just admit they are cheap?

Do you recall that critical four game series at home against the Jays, in which they showed up looking like a playoff team and we showed up looking like a team that had been eliminated a month earlier... I'm frustrated b/c I don't see how we've made the moves necessary to beat the Jays in such a series next year.

But it's obviously better for ownership to keep money in their pockets and hope that Spenser Watkins is more valuable than Nathan Eovaldi!  Because why try to improve the team when you can save money?

Somebody needs to tell Boston that they have to rebuild for 6 or 7 years before they can start throwing Kyle Gibson money around like this.

I know right? How dare they try to improve the major league club while projected to finish last in the division!
