There’s no way the Frazier contract should have any impact on anything the O’s want to do.   If they’re not making moves, it’s because they’ve decided those moves aren’t prudent, not because they already spent the money on Frazier.

Look, I have defended the O’s low payrolls the last few years as prudent under the circumstances.   But the team has plenty of cash.  They had operating income of $85 mm in 2021, probably $100 mm+ in 2022.   There’s zero reason they couldn’t afford a guy like Eovaldi regardless of the minor moves they’ve made this winter.

If they have plenty of cash, they should use it to improve the team.  Plenty of options have been there all off season.  It just boggles my mind that they think $8M for Frazier is a smart use of funds, while $17M on Eovaldi (a player who misses bats and has higher upside than Frazier at a position of need) is not.

It's just stupid to me (the team's decision making...your post is probably correct).

So they could’ve passed up all of the replacement activity and afforded this guy.

Maybe the Frazier signing for $8M made it so Eovaldi was out of their price range.  Laughably pathetic if the Orioles cannot afford $8M and $17M contracts, but also laughably pathetic insofar that Frazier was not nearly as necessary as someone like Eovaldi.

And yet, it was all of three months ago when the season ended and the Orioles had more wins than the Rangers.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather my team won.  And not just wanted to win.

Sure.  But the Orioles should have signed Eovaldi if all it took was 2 years 34 (I understand the incentives can make it more).  He would be an upgrade over whoever the fifth starter is right now (Wells/Voth).  It is pathetic that with as low a payroll as they have, they could not do this.

I just wanted to take the time to wish you and your family the Merriest of Christmases, The Happiest of Hannukkahs, or the Happiest of Holidays to all of you. Thank you all for being part of our Hangout family and for everything you bring to this community.

Like with any family, we may "fight" at times (Thanks Frazier 🤣), but it should never be personal. We dust ourselves off, and come back to the next thread ready to agree with the very person you may have disagreed with in the other thread!

In the end, each and every one of you makes the Hangout what it is, and that's the best online community to discuss the Orioles.

Hope you all enjoy your holidays with your friends and family and here's to the Orioles having a great season next year!!!

Thanks Tony.  Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah to all.

It is a double standard, but it is what it is.

I'm not convinced that Bauer can't do it without spider tack or some extra help though.  We'll see.  But I'd rather not have him.

Frobby's retired, so does he count?  I dunno.  Maybe.

I wasn't aware you were a personal injury attorney.  How many billboards do you have?

    (Thems just jokes)

Hahaha.  No worries,  Jimmy McGill was the king of billboards.

I do civil defense work though.

Is this the thread where all the wannabe legal experts chime in?  Awesome.

I don't think he's good enough for the media headache.  He'd have to be, like, prime Kershaw for me to want to give him an opportunity.

Frobby and I (and I'm sure others on here) are legal experts though 😉 - at least, our employers seem to think so.

    It's the backup catcher.

Most teams end up with someone who is close to replacement level.

As long as the O's didn't give up anything useful it's fine.

He should bounce back a bit.

Agreed.  As long as McCann is not getting regular at bats (unless he gets hot), then it's a solid move.  He was pretty good a few years ago, and I read that he was a bit unlucky last year.  A low 700s OPS with 8-10 home runs would be perfectly fine from him.

Mullins get to live in Florida and nicer weather. :):)

LOL - on this cold, rainy morning, I was thinking along those lines as well.

But the Orioles would benefit the most from that trade.  Lopez AND Rogers is a coup for Mullins.

The Twins are getting calls about Sonny Gray and wonder if we might be one of them.  Although not a left hander he would be a definite upgrade to the rotation and guy you could plug in near the top.  I am not sure what the Twins plans are right now they have seemed to have missed out on a few guys so not sure if they will go rebuild or try to piece together a team to compete in the rather weak A.L Central.  Looking at their roster they have no third baseman at this point so would they be interested in a trade including Urias plus a prospect?   Gray has one more year on his deal so he fits in our seemed to b 1 year starter plan.  He will make 12.5 million again seems in our range.

The current free agents don’t look that promising to me and we still have a glut of major league infielders along with near major league ready guys at some point this season.

Would look into a Gray and Kepler for Urias/Mateo and Tate type deal.
