I came across an article trying to rank the best under age 25 talent in the AL East. They had Adley ranked #2 - "After languishing for several years in the American League East basement, it is great to finally see the Orioles making some noise. And that all starts with 24 year-old catching sensation, Adley Rustchman." It appears the article thinks the Blue Jays and Orioles are going to be battling it out over the next 2-5 years. What does everyone else think? Are there any future superstars on other teams that we should be worried about?

Very interesting article, thanks for sharing. Amusing how there are no Red Sox, but I guess considering the state of their system, it makes sense. Interesting that Devers is 26, probably just missed the cut.

Vladdy and Bichette are under team control thru 2025. That should help down the road.
Yeah, Toronto is pretty loaded with young talent. If/when they trade Kirk, Moreno is right there waiting to take over. Will be interesting to see if/when Toronto tries to extend Vlad and Bichette.

I think the O's work best when they are the only team in contention.
Beating out three other teams doesn't seem as likely.
This is true. I remember no one else was after Cobb or Ubaldo when we signed them.
Though, apparently ,there were other suitors for Gibson...

Is the "finalist" there a FA player or a team?
I read it as the Padres were a finalist for Bassitt.

Wonder if the Orioles were a "finalist."

Don't really want Thor, but here's an update from Heyman. I would think the O's are one of the four.

Nor is there a specific reason you cannot do one or the other to build a good team.
That's where we disagree. But it's not worth getting into it any further.

Either/or here is a big fallacy.
Right. There is no good reason you cannot do both to build a good team.

Somewhere, certain OH posters are breathing a sigh of relief that the Orioles did not spend money. Best the owners keep the money for themselves instead of investing it on players that can help the Orioles.

Don't know a ton about him, but seems like a good deal for SF. Wonder if the Orioles were even in on him.

Where is Buster Olney?
By media, I meant the local media. Roch et al. Yes, Olney will have at it.

Verlander and Bassitt are the only free agents I'm upset about the Orioles not being in on. Mostly because they both offered a rare opportunity (this offseason) to get two quality arms on relatively short terms deals. There's no excuse for them not being in the mix for either one other than ownership being complete tight wads with their money.
Ownership deserves significant criticism if, by the end of the offseason, we are looking at Gibson as the most significant acquisition. I am willing to give them more time since it is only December 13, but the media needs to (if won't) call out ownership for their pathetic unwillingness to loosen the purse strings just a little to supplement this young core into a legitimate contender.

I think Wander Franco is way too far down this list.
Wander is interesting... former number one prospect with tons of potential. Manoah Bichette and McClanahan having more MLB success maybe put them over the top, at least for now.

Let’s face it, getting beyond GRod and hopefully Hall, there really isn’t anyone in the system that you can, as of today, you feel has a chance to be an impact starter. They absolutely need to add starting pitching.
Can't disagree with anything here. These are the facts, unfortunately. Bradish looked great in spurts, and he's the closest thing besides GROD and Hall to an impact pitcher, but the team has no one else they can count on as an impact starter. Kremer may be fine as an average to slightly above average starter, but that's it

Before analytics, there were a bunch a guys in plaid pants talking about how absurd statistical math was, and that you needed to rely on old-fashioned scouts talking about players with ugly girlfriends.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
Cool. Let's all enjoy everyone else sign good baseball players, while we hope that our non-proven players can be just as good, because owknows doesn't want to spend money.

He's 100% trolling (or trying to). That's become abundantly clear in this thread. It's really not worth engaging / responding to him anymore than we already have.
It annoys me because it is the exact opposite of what a competent team would do. I just have to assume he/she is doing it to get under people's skin and move on.

I'd be down with it if I thought it would work.
It's be great.
I don't want the O's to sign free agents just because.
I've advocated for some of this stuff, still do.
Of course they shouldn't sign free agents just because. They should make smart deals to be competitive, like the Bassitt deal or the Senga deal (if those players wanted to come here). Hated the Taillon and Walker deals. But to say no, we will not spend money on free agents, is, like another poster correctly said, giving yourself a razor thin margin for error with everything else you do. There is just no reason for it, unless you care about the owner's pockets.

No. It's just that not a single competent Orioles fan agrees with your suggestions on how to do things. You are one of the most absurd posters I have ever come across on here.
It's nothing personal. I don't know you obviously. I am just amazed that there is a fan out there that is saying what you are saying with a straight face. Spend LESS in free agency than the Rays? LOL

The owner isn't going to pay for someone to post here.
I was thinking that too. Perhaps its an unpaid internship.

They gave you a winning record. A stacked farm. Graduating superstars. And the promise of a bright future.
Quit whining about Santa not bringing you a pony.
No one is this obtuse unless they work for, or are related to, the Orioles owners. You are absurd.

I didn't say it caused the collapse.
I didn't say it extended the collapse.
I did though, suggest it was a horrible thing for the organization.
And that coupled with Trumbo, and Ubaldo, and Cashner, and Cobb... uhh... maybe it hurt... a lot.
I'm assuming you're a parody/trolling. Please tell me that is what you are doing here.
Either that, or you were sent here by the Angeloses.
