I know I've been complaining about the complaining about the Gunnar Henderson situation, but it's a bit perplexing.

I get it if they want to keep him under 130 at bats, that's fine, so wait a day or two after the imaginary date, whathaveyou, etc.  That was last week.

It doesn't seem like they're going to call him up now, yesterday would have been the perfect day to do it.  If they call him up between now and 9/1, well, I'm not sure what the strategy of waiting until the last minute is but whatever, at least he'd be up.

But it's looking like you guys might have to settle in for another month of Odor/Nevin.  I saw somewhere on here that Elias said that the callups would be one pitcher and one hitter, but that doesn't automatically mean the hitter is Henderson.

The funny thing about Nevin is... he NEVER plays.  There is literally no reason for him to be on the roster now, let alone for the bulk of the season.

You're comparing not bringing up a 21 year old kid with a month to go in the season, to not pitching our all-star closer having an almost historic year in an elimination game?  That's laughable.  Gunnar is not some cure-all to the current offensive woes.  I want to see him too but sorry, acting like this is some completely indefensible decision is over the top.

It's not as awful as not pitching Britton, sure.  But it's still indefensible.  Just because Buck failed to use Britton doesn't make this head scratcher more sensible.

O's just came out, no Henderson. Urias batting 4th playing 3rd.

LOL.  Cause heaven forbid they call up their best prospect, who has been mashing at AAA all year, when their offense is down and they're in a pennant race.

    Mind boggling.

The fact that Henderson is still not up and someone like Nevin sent down is pure malpractice by this FO. No one is saying he would SOLVE the offensive problems but he certainly wouldn't hurt at this point. I see no logical reasons why he's not up yet. What else does he have to do? He'd be an instant upgrade over Nevin and possibly Odor.

It's absurd.  There is zero rationale/logic behind it.

After the rebuilding phase is over, most teams go out and get an established manager. Now that expectations will be higher in 2023, how long do you see the Orioles rolling with Hyde? And I’m not hear saying that Hyde is a bad manager and I know he’s going to get a few manager of the year votes, but is he good enough to be at the helm of a team that’s expected to win?

God I hope so. Would be idiotic to fire him.

You can tell Mountcastle is being more cognizant of sliders and curves so it appears he is trying to wait longer for a  swing decision. In some respects it has paid off because he has taken some closer pitches and not just flailing away at pitches a foot outside. Issue now is he is getting beat by hard stuff.  Last season he destroyed any fastball inner 1/2 regardless of speed.

Maybe this is the classic sophomore slump. That to me is caused by overthinking after kind of winging it your first year. If this isn’t the case then unfortunately Mountcastle probably won’t end up being the player we had hoped.

Good post re: sliders and curves.  I agree.

Man I wish Stowers was in the line up.. and when is Mountcastle going to be dropped out of clean up spot?!?

Palmer was spot on (as usual) yesterday about Mountcastle's struggles.  He can't hit center cut 93 right down the middle.  I know he's a streaky hitter.  Let's hope he gets into one of those white hot stages in September, especially in the Toronto games, and we should have a good shot at the playoffs.

Would ike to see Stowers starting more with Hays getting a day off, but I guess with his homer yesterday, they wanted to keep him in the lineup.  I have no problem with Odor over Vavra today, as Vavra has looked a bit lost lately after the absurd reaching base 10-11 times.  Overall, I'm okay with this. Let's see if we can pull a miracle and beat the AL Cy Young favorite.

Last night was the best I've seen Bautista this year. Absolutely dominant performance last night.

And against some really good hitters.  A red hot Sheets, and Robert, Abreu, and Jimenez.

2022.......Orioles have to try to win a spot with Urias, Odor, Phillips.  Bring the top rated prospect up?  No.

It would be a shame to intentionally not play potentially better options and throw away a shot at a playoff run.  Made worse because we seem to have answers sitting in AAA.

But But But... Gunnar has to learn how to play first base!

For the most part I think Hyde has been fine, but bunting with Odor in the 9th today was mindboggling. Much of Odor's value on the team is because he can end a game with one swing.

Agreed.  Nearly as a good a chance he gets a hit or walk than getting a good sacrifice bunt down.

I'll put this here even though it also pertains to Tate and Bautista:

Last night, not a single put-out was made by the outfield.  Every single out was either a groundball, strike-out, pop-up  to the infield or caught stealing.

Very cool stat.  It seemed like there were about a dozen ground balls to Mateo/Odor. Both of them played tremendous D last night.

    PATHETIC AGAIN

C'mon, why is McKenna leading off?   Put Mateo there!  Why's Vavra 8th?

Nevin, seriously?  I never thought I'd be pining for the days of DJ Stewart but holy fried ****, I'd take Stewart over him no problem.  Even though Stewart is a lefty, I'd rather see him tonight vs. Kikuchi as a DH over Nevin.

I don't typically get uppity over lineups but these past two days are terrible.

    At least Phillips isn't starting.

Mullins sitting in favor of Nevin playing is piss poor management. Mullins facing a LH is preferred over Nevin, plus our defense significantly improves. Hyder is back I guess

I agree with that statement, but maybe they want to give Mullins a day after three days on turf? Don't know.

Nevin at DH?!?!?  Good Lord we need some better batters on the MLB roster.

I am sick and tired of seeing Nevin.  But, he is starting because we are facing a lefty tonight.  And aside from Diaz, Chirinos, and (Westburg?), we don't really have any other options with Mancini gone.  Now, it is definitely poor roster management that this is the case, but these are the facts unfortunately.

I mean I would have preferred Vavra starting too, but I didn't know Mountcastle was hurt until three seconds ago, so I figure they probably have their reasons.

And in light of Mountcastle's injury, (and the trade of Mancini, which everybody was happy with two weeks ago), it's literally the only difference between their regular lineup so the angst doesn't make much sense.

I mean they literally started their top 7 guys, and one guy was dinged up and one guy's been traded.

For me, it boils down to there being no excuse for Nevin still being on this team.  And while I guess it is arguable, it they want to make the playoffs, which Elias said he thinks they can, then Henderson and Stowers should be up here instead of Nevin/Phillips.
